Best car in the world 370Z questions
I just purchased a 370Z silver in color, coupe.
I have been having a ball driving this car and very impressed withe the power and handling. I modified the exhaust by eliminating the muffler and running straight pipes which is equivalent to most $1,500 exhaust systems but it only cost me $200.00 for the same back pressure as a stillen. I would like to change out to drop in intake (K&N) and then get a tuner so I can get the most from the mods. Is there a way to get a tuner that is not married to another can and tune mine without paying $500.00 for 30 more HP? Input would be appreciated Art |

Congrats on the new car man but whoever told you cutting of the mufflers and welding up straight pipes is the same as a good exhaust like Stillen, FI, HKS etc is a dope. Sorry. Most good aftermarket exhaust systems increase the size of the pipes, and alter the flow of the pipes from the cat-back to increase HP. So yea your mod was cheap but probably added about 1hp. As for the tune just do whatever mods you want then get an UpRev tune, you pay for what you get and UpRev is the best tune out there for these cars hands down. You payed a lot for your car don't cheap out.

From some stuff I've read in the Fast intentions thread, it doesn't seem like resonators make any observable difference to exhaust flow in their exhaust. I doubt there is much difference in the stock one either. Our biggest restrictions for exhaust would be the catalytic converters and after that, probably the Y-pipe.
Congrats on the new ride! |

Nobody said anything about resonators. But the FI exhaust like most others increases the diameter of the pipes and changes the flow after the cat. Stock there is one pipe running from the cats to the back which then branches into two into the muffler. The FI exhaust converts the exhaust into a "true dual" after the cats. Am I speaking a different language here guys? Can some one back me up.

First off he is only running straight pipes from where the muffler attaches to the back of the car so no his setup is nothing like a FI, Stillen etc. Also my FI exhaust has only two restrictions and that's the two mufflers at the rear and I refuse to believe that if I had no mufflers at all (straight pipes) I would make any more HP. Maybe 1-2 I guarantee my Non Resonated FI Cat-Back makes just as much HP as a custom bent straight pipe setup made by some local muffler shop. As a matter of fact if the pipes are increase to much you may lose power.

Thanks to all
I was told that since we knew the back pressure produced by the stillen cat back that all we had to do was duplicate that and that is all we did. We did change the diameter of the pipes from there back as well but I allegedly and producing the same back pressure as a stillen cat back system which I thought would produce the same HP as a stillen would and the sound is fantastic.
I am so impressed in the unique sound. Now I want to put drop in filters amd go to a tune shop in Sarasota and make the final adjustments. I think they will back up the OEM and let me save it in case I need it. I will keep you posted once I get the HP and TQ results back Thanks again Art Last edited by littleben; 07-30-2012 at 07:17 PM.
