Distinctively quieter engine after oil change...can it be?

So I got off my lazy arse and changed the oil in the car today (a big F.U. to Mr Dealership and their $180 dollar oilchange). I went with redline synthetic...and a swear the engine is SO MUCH MORE QUIET. The notorious ticking I've always had with nissan engines (same with my new titan) is COMPLETELY gone. Has this happened to anyone else? My friends seem to think I should lay off the crack pipe (figureatively speaking).

Oh yes,i also got this 'quieter' feeling,also more power is noted,maybe the 100%syn Shell oil is better than the factory-filled Nissan Easter based oil.?

Your point? I did a search and no where did I find a post about oil making an engine quieter. It has nothing to do with oil temps/oil coolers/warranties/overheating/etc. Was just curious if someone else has had the same thing happen. Just happy i solved the ticking issue, and it may help someone else who is new to the board.

it's because of the Ester based RedLine oil

there's even a TSB for this ticking sound on the G37, solution was Ester oil

Did not know that about the TSB.

Yeah, but wouldn't the car come with ester based oil from the factory since its "recommended"?

it didnt for the G37 folks....i dunno what comes now.....i still think it's regular 5W30 oil from factory.

i doubt they would give premium oil, let the consumers buy it...lol

370z's do come with nissan's ester oil from the factory, and it is recommended to continue using that oil. Most of us are going to ester based synthetics

It may be a possibility that you had metal filings in your original oil which may have been causing the noise.

Very interesting then. If my car came with nissan ester based synthetic and still had that annoying ticking...whats the point of the genuine nissan ester oil? The redline ester based sythetic I put in completely cured that issue. I'm not convinced our cars some with ester based oil from the factory for that reason alone.

It did it from day one though. Dealership guys said it was "normal engine sounds". I guess they meant normal for crappy oil.

In my experience, I've been using the Nissan Oil and am @6000mi with a few oil changes. Everytime after an oil change it is noticeably quieter, but then it reverts back to its old noisy self after a few hundred miles.

i used royal purple synthetic at my first oil chance (about 1500). i did not notice any discernible difference in engine noise.
