It was already dead, you were coasting in gear using the engine as a giant air pump. The RPM's dropped as soon as you clutched in but the engine had already ceased firing, and they would have come back if you clutched out while moving (still with no fire of course).

Definitely fuel starve. I think the weird codes get thrown when trying to restart with no fuel on the pickup side. Clear codes, add 1 gallon of gas (pickup is on filler neck side), fires right up. Rinse, don't repeat.

2 years ago I got rescued by road side assistance due to this. Fortunately it never came to a flat bed, just added the 1 gallon of gas.

Sounds a lot like fuel starvation to me. It's a known issue that Nissan refuses to fix and dealers are clueless about.

I knew about fuel starvation, I just didn't know it could cause all those codes or the long time to start up which is why I didn't think of it at first. Cossie, that sounds identical to what happened to me. Hard prolonged corner, gunned it out and then a few seconds later the car died. I kept it in gear since I wanted to keep power to the steering and brakes as long as possible. That also explains why when I tried to start it, there were zero dots on the fuel gauge.

There's a gas station right by the dealer, this is my first fuel starvation experience and will definitely be my last time letting fuel levels get that low. It's just weird it's never happened before since I have done canyons and turns like that with the same fuel level. Thanks for all the advice everyone, I really appreciate it!

my autox day always starts with a full tank of gas. people think i am crazy, there is a reason.

I explained the same thing to the state trooper, even he was laughing at how bad the design was.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have never experienced fuel starve like you guys are saying. Just now, I took a turnpike on ramp (about 270 degree turn, slight banking) accelerating all the way to 70 through it, and my fuel meter was on one dot. I also tried the off ramp (opposite direction) and still no stutters or anything. Might this be an issue with older 370Zs?

nope it happens to everyone of them, you just didn't turn hard and long enough. OP runs on RE11s, he probably never even felt that he was turning really fast given how sticky they are.

Hm, that may be the case. I took the turn nearly as fast as possible, before the front started scrubbing and understeering. Still seems like a far cry from getting fuel starve with just half a tank or something modest. On stock RE050A, by the way.

I am sure it felt fast and you were going fast, but we can go faster simply because we have better tires. sometimes it isn't even speed, it is how you come off the turn. you can't beat the physical flaw of the gas tank, you just didn't do enough to hit it.

we get fuel starve at 75% fuel load...

I was at the limit of the car going around a long near 180 degree right turn, funny that this never happened before but at least I know what it feels like to get fuel cut! Picked the car up from the dealer this morning, they couldn't replicate the issue which figures.

They are still blaming the GTR start button, LOL. The RE11s add so much grip with less drama, great setup!

Haha, the trailer hitch? Really? That explains why it took a while for it to start up again. I have officially learned my lesson haha. Thanks for all the help cossie, repped.

I know right?! I was thinking my headlight bulb burning out was caused by my shift knob, damn modifications!

It was a slight downhill, banked and to the right. I had a little under a 1/4 tank.

I wish mine started up that quick, otherwise I would have avoided the whole tow truck charge. I would have needed a change of pants if that happened at speed in a track situation! Your new tank design will be a huge advantage, can't wait to see the results.
