Trade in my Z?
Should I trade in my Base 370z Manual 2010 with 22K miles for a Nissan 370z Roadster with Touring & Sport Package (also manual).
Well Long story short. My car about to be 2 year old in 2 weeks. My brother went grocery shopping and accidentally reverse and hit another car. 50/50 fault it has some scratches and a piece of my tail light broke off. Thinking about trading it in to get a nice roadster. Should I? The dealer asking for 41K, hopefully I could get it for 40K out the door. What you guys think my trade in value will be with the car, even though there is a little scratch mark to my rear bumper? |
Yes, right now.
|
But should I wait for the 2013, it's coming out soon.
|
No, it's ugly.
|
Waiting for dealer to get back to me. Hopefully I get at least 22-24 for my Z now. Probably going to use that to go to down.
|
My honest opinion: "It is your money. Spend it the way you want to."

Get what you want. If you want a Roadster, who's stopping you? |
You'll really like the upgrade from the base, and if the roadster is something you really want, I say go for it also. I also agree, 2012 not 2013
Get that "new car" feel again :) |
13s are ugly. Do it!

As a trade in, I think that's what the dealer will give you, 22K tops (they may start lower and will always low ball you, but hey that's their job) and if they give your more for your trade in, the price of the new car, will be higher. I say, sell it on your own, I think you can get 3 grand more even with the scratch. As for model year 12 or a 13, what appeals to you more? 12s may be in short supply, so getting the color & options you want, may be limited. Also, 13's may have internal upgrades far more pleasing than what the brochures & spec sheets say. Go to the NAGTROC Forum and read all the rave reviews about the 13 GTR's suspension versus the 12. Is it possible they put some of those magic things into the 13Z (Euro tuned)? As far as looks, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Regarding the sports package Z, it's a beautiful car but the looks have not changed from 2009 to 2012. For me, I prefer the different look of the 13 better. Immediately a Z enthusiast will look at it and know it's a 13. A non enthusiast will still think it's a Porsche:icon17:. Thus I ordered one and have been waiting for two months now. Either choice, you can't go wrong so enjoy the process and have fun driving your Z:driving: |

So, OP, my advice to you is to go to KBB.com and value your trade-in and then go to NADAguides.com and value your trade in and work from there. Plus, he asked if he should wait for the '13, so... That was one opinion. I snapped up a leftover '12 at 0% while I could for the very same reason- I don't know if I'd call the 2013 ugly until I see it in pictures but I'm not a fan of the LED strip or the new wheels thus far. |

If I was in your shoes I would buy the roadster since I am really not liking the 2013 model. But its really up to you, do you want the roadster or do you want to wait for a 2013 model.
At the end of the day its your money, spend it how you want to and feel is good to you. |
Yeah. I really like ny Z now, I always baby it, first car I ever bought myself. Still deciding if I should buy the roadster and make payments again. Probably see if I get a good deal. If I do then here comes financing again.
The dealer where I'm ask is offering me 41 before tax. 2012 Roadster Pearl White + Touring & Sport. Trying to see if I could get it out the door for 40-42K. MSRP almost 47999. |
If you are calling the '13 model ugly. I agree but I like the fangs and Rays wheels on the '09-'12. Now if you dont like the addition the LED's on the front bumper that is one thing. But if you are driving around with blacked out fangs on your '09-'12 then how can you hate what they did? They saved you a step. It seems some of the things incorporated into the '13 came from this forum. Blacked out fangs....blacked out guage...painted calipers...SS lines etc. But unfortunately there is nothing you can do with what they did to the Rays wheels on the sport package. I really dislike the change and would have to go aftermarekt immediately.
Back on track......I say trade it in if you really want the roadster. Just make sure the deal makes sense to you. Don't get upside down in something to make a quick change. |

If I were in your shoes I would buy the 2012 just for 0% financing and the fangs!

Where I live when you trade your car of lesser value to a dealership for another car of a higher value you only pay taxes on the difference in price which is another thing to consider. If they offer you 22k for yours and want 40k before taxes on the roadster you should only be paying the difference in price on taxes (18k), and taxes should be around $1,000ish instead of selling yours outright for say 24k and then paying full sales tax on 40 grand which in Texas is 6.25% and I'm sure it's close, if not the same where you live so you would be paying roughly $2,500 in tax on the car instead of $1,000 if you were to trade in. Just wanted to throw that out there because I have considered swapping for another Z in the past but it was a private seller and I would have to pay taxes on 30k+ all over again..... Pointless Hope this helps you in your decision |
