According to every shop, time attack driver, etc. that's driven both a IX and X will tell you that the X is every bit as much an Evo as the IX and is more capable on track than the IX is.
Remember, Evo VI owners said the same thing about the VII when it came out.

I hope your not running 30psi all time cause that head stud is not enough to keep your engine from Kabooming! I'm sure if it's your daily drive you would be pushing around 22psi on 91-93octane.

PS: I daily drive, auto-x, and hit 30psi on a daily basis. Please teach me something about my Evo that I haven't learned from the past 3+ years of owning it and building it since it had 2.3 miles on the clock.

I have pointed this link to my tuner Jon at HB Speed in Fountain Valley, CA. Jon is one of the premier tuners in Southern California. He has tuned a large percentage of the west coast Time Attack cars out here. I'm sure he'd be happy to shed some light on this topic of whether 30psi on an FP Red with stock internals and only ARP headstuds will hold up.
P.S. Running 30psi on pumpgas...do you beat your girlfriend as well??? Cuz that's just a mean thing to do to your motor!!!

And yes, when my wife doesn't have my sammich ready after work I put my wife beater on and kick her around while she's on her hands and knees scrubbing my floor. Tony (is running 30psi by my tuner's suggestion)

pump gas eh?

race gas or E85 FTW im saving to have my evo tuned on E85 by september with some nice mods, 4G63 Evos can handle 550whp on stock block for sure. ARP head studs just to keep the head in place, many many evo owners have been running these numbers for a good period of time on there evos. and as far as the 8/9 vs 10 goes...... ya the X is fast, yes it handles well, but it did not evolve from the previous model..... new chassis, new engine, new looks, no EVOLUTION TOOK PLACE. stock for stock the 9 beats the 10 on the track its proven. (and for everyone wondering why an evo owner is on the Z forums, I plan on buying one soon i have always loved them and the new nismo 370z in black has me sold) |

Like I already said... the X IS an evolution of the IX. It's like saying the VII wasn't an evolution of the VI (which is somewhat true, lol) or the IV wasn't an evolution of the III. It's a better all around car... there's no arguing that. There's no arguing that it's better on the track than a IX... anybody that's ran both at any kind of event will tell you this. Of course it's not as fast/quick as a XI on the drag strip, but that's a moot point since drag racing is NOT what the car was built for.

I'm glad your motor is still running strong...just be VERY careful. This taken from Forced Performance's website: Forced Performance Turbochargers: FP RED Turbocharger Evo IX "The FP Red turbocharger for the EVOIX is the only stock format turbo capable of delivering 550+whp with some examples recording over 600whp. Typical installations of this turbo result in mid to upper 400's on pump gas and mid to upper 500's on race gas depending on ambient temperature and related mods to the car in question. Typical boost threshold is about 3700RPM with some cars spooling up slower or faster depending on camshaft selection and other variables. The turbocharger should be operated at 22-24psi on pump gas and about 30-35psi spike dropping to 25-27psi by redline in race gas applications." My cause for concern on this has stemmed from my conversations with Robert Young at Forced Performance. I am sponsored by Forced Performance with my STi and had considered the RED for my build before I had built internals. He strongly swayed me away from that as for both the EVO and STi with stock internals. Even with Cosworth internals, I upgraded my Green to the HTA Green and I run 100 octane plus meth!!! I have seen 3 evo ix's go "Kaboom" in the last 3 months out here using the Red with stock internals (with race gas) pushing 30psi! And as far as the Evo 7-9 vs X on track...i have driven them all on track...X is faster hands down.

Just as a safety precaution I do plan on upgrading my rod bolts because I want to push it futher on the stock internals (plan on running an Aquamist kit after I get back from Korea next year). What they suggest for race gas is exactly what I'm running for pump (30psi tapering to ~26-27psi by 8k). There's MANY Evos running as much boost as I am with no issues... hell, there's plenty of Evos running bigger turbos and as much boost as me on pump and stock guts with no issues. It's all tuner dependant.

my bad, somehow skipped that. either way still FP RED FTW. and if you can run pump with that boost then great job with the tuning. on the other note my issue with the X still stands. NEW chassis, NEW engine. all previous evos had same chassis and engine. they just kept evolving into better performing machines. body was a minor change before. |
