I was torn between the two cars myself. I ultimately went with the Z because 1)I had a 350z as my previous car and loved it and 2) I was looking at the MR and as I understand it the transmission was not going to be able to handle much modding.
In the end I did get a 7AT Z (which can handle pretty much any bolt on gains). If I do go with a mild FI set up someday, I won't mind shelling out a little more for a VB job and/or tranny cooler. Just my 2 cents on the matter. |

This is true...the tranny on the MR is good for about 360tq and that's about it. There are several companies working on a fix for this...the main reason once it gets up to a certain temperature...LIMP MODE.

Xs are really fun - I had one... but it feels like the car is really driving itself - which it is. One thing i hated about them was the lack of response to the driver - you had no idea how much harder you could push it before it lost control... sadly this happened to me as I gave the car a little too much cred....

ARPs are an easy and recommended upgrade for Evos running over 25psi on the stock turbo or running aftermarket turbos. EDIT: Do want Robispec. Will be buying in about a year and a half. OMFG do want.

I'm working on getting both too.. i traded in the evo 8, saving up now for a Evo 9 RS .
Its going to take turbos to kill the time of my old evo though.. bolt ons to bolt ons the Z cant compete |

THe X is pretty nasty however it picked up a few pounds. The 9 has the luxury of mivec and truly is the last "evo." Very easy and cheap to mod. I dont need to go bankrupt to make big power out of that car. Its in the shop rite now getting a meth kit. We are hoping for 420-450 whp, stock turbo, stock block. The 370z is an improvement in every way over the 350, plus its sexy. It takes more money to mod the z but its a nice rear wheel drive platform.

I cant realy compare the two cars since they are meant for different purposes. The evo is nasty out of the hole, and makes a ton of torque with the 16g. The z waits till it revs up to make some power, but it revs surprisingly high and makes good power through the whole power band. Both cars handle very well but the evo makes u feel more confident with the awd system, and the z is fun getting sidewayzz.
