I hate deer - no seriously

My 3 month old nismo post-deer strike, July 4th in broad daylight. Outdoor temp ~102:

http://i.imgur.com/LJxDh.jpg
The f'ing thing literally ran broadside into me while I was actively trying to avoid it going ~45mph. Seriously, it takes a special kind of ******* animal to time its suicide charge perfectly enough to keep me from seeing it until the last possible second and manage to hit ME and not the other way around. Point of initial impact: driver's side fender.

http://i.imgur.com/ues9M.jpg
Flatbed driver says I'm lucky it didn't flip feet first into the windshield or my day might have been a lot shittier. Note the pretty Adams glaze sheen.

http://i.imgur.com/9othV.jpg
Better shot of the point of impact. I saved the Z emblem off of the blinker lamp. Girlfriend took the shot - I think I was still off on the side of the road screaming and throwing things at that point.

http://i.imgur.com/RS5nH.jpg
Look at that shine :(

http://i.imgur.com/irr9u.jpg
Oh yeah and the fucker had to go and destroy my door panel and rear quarterpanel as well.

http://i.imgur.com/3e6op.jpg
The assailant (after the cop dragged it off the road). May she rot in deer hell. Literally too stupid to live.

Figured I'd start my own thread to keep the other 4th of july guy's thread intact. Fun things I learned:

-Police are actually sympathetic and will let you drink your beer intended for your 4th of july BBQ on the side of the road if it's over 100 degrees outside and your brand new car is smashed.

-The Nissan Cube has a much nicer stock stereo than then Z. Like...a lot nicer.

-The Nissan Cube is literally a turd on wheels. My coworker took a picture of it but I don't know where it went. It's sitting outside right now but I can't be bothered to go out there to photograph it. It's poop-brown, very square, unstable, and sounds like a lawnmower when you step on the gas. Leave it at that.

370Zsteve 07-13-2012 07:19 PM

:wtf2:

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 07:21 PM

The good news:
-No frame or mechanical damage
-It's with a Z specialist
-No refurbs or "fixes" - only new OEM pars for the repair.
-Insurance has acknowledged that a diminished value payment is appropriate (need to negotiate).

Bad news:
-Was really looking forward to my beach trip with it and it won't be ready until the 27th. Beach is 20-27th. Argh.

370Zsteve 07-13-2012 07:23 PM

It sucks. Beg the dealer for a nice replacement vehicle. Beg your salesman for his demo.

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 07:25 PM

It's just body damage and all 3 damaged panels are being swapped out with new OEM parts. It'll be fine.

Why on earth would the dealer give me a new car?

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 07:27 PM

The diminished value settlement will likely pay for my HFCs, headers and tune so I guess there's a silver lining.

Thechidz 07-13-2012 07:42 PM

he meant as a loner vehicle

how much was the DVS?

Still being negotiated. They're having trouble because the car is brand new and they don't have KBB numbers for it yet and this is an extremely unusual set of circumstances.

I want at least 2k based upon what I've seen but hoping for more.

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 07:46 PM

I still can't get over that the Cube's stock stereo has voice recognition, a separate iphone/android setting complete with exterior aux port and bluetooth pairing. What the ****.

that stuff is on the 370z touring model too. Makes the Nismo too heavy though

Oh hey now that makes sense. Sorry, I'm pretty tired and slightly drunk.

KillerBee370 07-13-2012 07:54 PM

Suicide charge!!! Lol

Bucketlist2012 07-13-2012 08:14 PM

Am I crazy, or is that thing dual turbo ?

And the deer got what it deserved...

Glad you are OK..

Also am I crazy and you were going to sell it because you are having a Kid ?

Maybe I have the wrong Z car..

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 08:20 PM

1) It's 3 months old, is a NA car with the only engine mod (so far) being a stillen G3 intake. Berk HFCs and stillen ceramic headers are next up. I have no intention of turbocharging/supercharging it.

2) It appears the deer may or may not have been pregnant. If so, that's Darwinism in action folks.

3) Me too.

4) Oh my god I don't have any kids that I know of. Don't joke about that.

5) You have the wrong Z car.

OK, sorry...My Bad...:tiphat:

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 08:54 PM

Asked my girlfriend if we had any kids and if she would be willing to sell them if it meant I'd have to get rid of my Z. She threw a pillow at me and went back to sleep.

blackcherry20 07-13-2012 09:00 PM

Wow! Really sorry about your Z-:shakes head:
Stoopid deer:ugh2:
Stoopid raccoons:ugh2:

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 09:11 PM

Just extremely grateful neither of us were hurt badly. Oh and my girlfriend is ok too.

New body panels and I'll be up and running again. Attempted to talk my body shop guy into repainting the entire car in black cherry rather than just mb and was met with an eye roll. Already bugging Carbon Fiber Element re some of their advertised replacement interior parts. After that will be HFCs and headers.

Incidentally, anyone have any idea how I can go about swapping out my gray coated nismo calipers for red ones? Red would look so much nicer than gray.

After that, halos in orange or red would be the icing on the cake.

Oh yeah-glad nobody was hurt (but the stoopid deer)-they look pretty big up close and personal like that-had an Accord that looked very similar to your Z after our 'encounter' and it was quite an experience.

NuffZed 07-13-2012 09:21 PM

Sorry to hear about your troubles man but your both OK and the car is getting fixed. Broad daylight is odd because they typically do this in the early mornings or near sunset. Pictures make me cringe because I'm doing my first road trip through deer, elk, and moose country this weekend.

As for the caliper issue try this. Find a lot with some new '13s. Come back w tools about 2am...

Seriously though you can powder-coat yours or order some if the parts are compatible.

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 09:23 PM

Well the thing is that the '12 nismo calipers are already powder coated (shiny gray with nissan logos). Thinking it'd be easier to swap them out than to refinish mine.

homeryansta 07-13-2012 09:26 PM

Did you at least get to take the deer home for some 4th of july grilling?

NuffZed 07-13-2012 09:29 PM

Ok so 21mm lugs, 22mm for the 2 caliper bolts, 4 cinder blocks...:stirthepot:

Funny you should mention that. Two funny encounters during my wait for the flatbed:
-Redneck in a panel van did a slow pass by the deer and turned around to take another look at it before (I guess) deciding it wasn't worth loading up.

-Kid in a dropped mitsubishi 2000GT (???) swung in behind my car to take pictures of it until I started towards him with a tire iron. Dumb to let him provoke me but I wasn't in the mood.

I'm sure there's a legal/economical way to perform the swap.

Bucketlist2012 07-13-2012 09:38 PM

We should donate some money to a deer hunters club...

Time to take out these deer , one by one..

Bambi, we are coming for you...

dmhenderson 07-13-2012 09:39 PM

A couple of the sales guys at work have started calling me "The Deer Hunter".

Were all '12s cursed by a Voodoo Shawman, Voldemort, George W Bush, etc? It seems like you guys can't get pass the 6 month mark without some sort of accident.

You're right-i've had mine less than 3 months-damaged chin spoiler from stoopid raccoon-:shakes head:

dmhenderson 07-14-2012 09:46 AM

I used my 09 as a daily driver and it never had a scratch on right up to when I sold it. Go figure.

dmhenderson 07-14-2012 10:14 AM

Update from car ICU:

New panel parts have arrived from Nissan and have been primted. Rearview mirror and side blinker lamp have arrived as well. Front spoiler and hood have been sanded and primed. Rim scuff fixed. It goes for blending/painting and windshield replacement/tinting early next week and will be ready for me to pick up on the 27th after road testing.

Been too many deer posts lately! As the last guy, glad you were (somewhat) lucky and she didn't come through the window.

Also agreed on the cube. It's really a hilarious car. On the plus side it does have great visibility, and about 15 cup holders!

joshs09slvrZ 07-14-2012 12:15 PM

Glad you're alright man. This is my worst fear where I live...we have a lot of deer around.

Any idea when you'll get it back?

dmhenderson 07-14-2012 12:34 PM

Should be done as soon as I get back from the beach on the 27th.

NitrousZ34 07-14-2012 01:11 PM

The only things i have ever hit in my Z was a pigeon and a seagull. I thought they were going to move like usual, but nope they just wanted to die that day i guess. I saved my Z one day though, took her in for maintance and noticed my power steering belt was getting beat up and they told me just to drive it home and back when my under drives came in. That night i was going over to one of my friends house in my moms huge conversion van and i was going around a turn at 55 when a possum runs right out in front of me and the left front tire hits it, the van goes up in the air and bounces back down and i maintain control. If i would have had my Z it would have been destroyed because it was a huge possum and there was a car next to me so i probably would have lost it going around a turn while hitting the possum. I'm glad that there is no deer where i live! Your car will be fixed in no time. Time to do some upgrades

dmhenderson 07-14-2012 04:05 PM

More fun with the CUBE:

-I filled it up with gas today. It cost $30 to fill the tank. Under half of what it costs to gas the Z.

-Cube owners do not appear to have the same sense of camaraderie that Z owners have. I figured waving didn't cut it, so upong seeing another cube, I rolled down the window, pointed at it and yelled, "CUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBE". Results were as follows:
-One woman glanced at me nervously, rolled up her window and sped off.
-Another guy yelled "IT'S A SCION" (it was a scion)

They're all cubes to me.
