does the stock 370 have tow hooks?

or do i need to buy some? for in case i need later on

EazyD 07-12-2012 08:47 AM

Should be one next to your spare tire.

kenchan 07-12-2012 09:45 AM

you should get 4, one for each corner.

DjSquall 07-12-2012 11:08 AM

Theres a tow hook that screws into the front of the car (behind the fangs)
The hook itself is located under the trunk mat by the spare tire. There is no rear tow hook.
If your car is lowered, I recommend keeping some wood shims in there as well. Mine is so low, it can't be towed even by flatbeds, without inching it over wood.
Stock height will have no problems getting onto a truck.

wstar 07-12-2012 12:07 PM

There's a fixed rear towhook as well, it's under the rear bumper on the driver's side, hard to miss once you go looking for it.

i heard one should not use that for towing. it's strap down hook for carrier.

God how I hate to ask this question, but what is under the butt hole on the rear bumper? Joke away, but what is the answer?

kenchan 07-12-2012 12:55 PM

there's nothing there. :(

Nothing.

You can open it with a butter knife

Is their enough strength to drill and tap a tow hook under the butt hole?

kenchan 07-12-2012 01:00 PM

i think only good for rear view cameras.

Umm I don't think so. I think there's a styrofoam crumple bar back there.

Rats!

Cmike2780 07-12-2012 03:04 PM

I thought someone used it as a spot for a tow hitch. You could probably fabricate something up, but why.

cossie had a tow hitch made that pokes through the butt hole I think, but it is secured to the crash bar above it.

Yes, a little anal intrusion

Front Colored Tow Hooks Infiniti/Nissan

i dont know about you guys but i was looking into this

wstar 07-13-2012 07:37 AM

The description on those colorful fold-down hooks linked above says they're rated for 1.5 tons, which is less than your car weighs unless you're in a very stripped out race-only machine. Usually you want parts like that to be over-rated, not under-rated. The stock tow hook from the trunk works fine, and if you want it to be prettier and more visible when you install it at the track (because leaving a tow-hook in on the street is asking for more damage in minor rear-end collisions...), dip it in red Plastidip from a local hardware store :)

Pauly 07-13-2012 07:55 AM

thanks to all of you guys

:iagree:

One of the guys at the track had one of those pretty aluminum tow hooks for his race car, all of 3000 lbs. After a breakdown on track, it ripped in half the moment the tow truck took up the slack on the tow line.

370Z Purist 07-13-2012 11:50 AM

I don't know about mounting fancy colored tow hooks on cars that are not track cars. It just looks incredibly ricey. That's why the stock tow hook should work just fine, considering it was used recently to tow my car. Damn tow company used wheel ties and royally scratched up my rear wheel though. Bastards.

How many of you have done the Plastidip?

I'm working on my checklist for trying my hand at a track Run... I figured I might as well have it colored for pictures but didn't know if it was even worth it:confused:

wstar 10-08-2012 05:07 AM

I used a can of this (the small red dip can): Amazon.com: Performix 11601-06 14.5OZ Red Plasti Dip Multipurpose Rubber Coating: Home Improvement. Your local hardware store probably carries it, and it holds up fine. I just used some string to hang it in the air (by the threads) to dry and did two coats (dip, hang dry, dip again, hang dry again). Here's a pic of it on the car, although it's partly hidden in shadows:

Thanks! I went to my local hardware store, but they only had black, ordered the Performix Mix Kit from Amazon... Goal is to get a good Purple out of it:tiphat:

I think mine might be one of those modbargain ones. It came with the car so I use it on the track. I figure it will probably only be used for pulling me out of the mud so it shouldn't need to be super strong :)

How do you like that Stillen Brake Cooling Kit and Exhaust, was just looking to order that or FI?

DR_ 10-08-2012 11:57 AM

I just got the brake cooling kit so I don't know how well it works yet.

The exhaust is perfect for daily driving. It is about OEM quiet if driving normal but sounds really nice when accelerating hard. I hate that it is heavier than stock though so I might change it out with somthing lighter at some point.

It is heavier than stock? Wtf! Why? What point is more HP if the car weighs more, they cancel each other out?

I'm sure you know this already, but some may not.

It depends on how much weight and how much hp are added. Ignoring all the other aspects of a vehicle, as long as the power/weight ratio improves, you can add weight all day long.

What about inertia? or do people only think about power? What's all that power if you can't stop worth a dime? The heavier the car, the more it will take to stop :) That's why Base/S model stops at a shorter distance than Nismo.

Well, considering the 2013 Genesis Coupe has more HP per pound I just thought it'd be nice to work towards evening that difference up

DR_ 10-08-2012 06:22 PM

From the 370z weight reduction thread you can see it gains 11.3 pounds but that can be offset will high flow cats

STILLEN Exhaust
Muffler Section - 39.6lbs (proven huge hp gains)
Y-Pipe - 11.3lbs
Resonated Y-Pipe - 14.4lbs
Total: 65.3lbs

Difference: +11.3lbs and 18whp

The Berk Cats are 5.5 lbs a piece for 11 lbs total, versus 21 lbs for stock.

dimitarm 11-22-2014 01:26 AM

Guys where do you install this tow hook on our cars?
