Might get a 370z soon.... hopefully
Hey guys/gals!
Today is pretty exciting for me since I found out I might be able to get a 370z sooner than I thought. Today me and my parents went to look at a cheap 2000 S10 V6 for only $1,500. It needs quite a bit fixed, but since my dad used to own his own shop it's pretty easy fixes. We got the main things fixed already and we are gonna clean it up real nice and resell it for about $5,000. Now I discussed with my parents that since I want a 370z and they like mine if when they sell it I can get the money and they just take my car and I make the payments myself on the 370z and use the 5k for a down payment. Which they agreed luckily. So now all I have to do is find a job and they are gonna put the S10 up for sale in about a month probably. So hopefully I can find a job soon, no one wants to hire a 16yr old (17 July 26) with only 2 months experience dishwashing. ): Also does anyone know if it would be possible to find a Touring/Sport/6MT with navigation with 5k down or would they be to expensive for 5k to be to little since I wanna stay around $450 a month. Also, if I can't get the navigation does anyone know if you can add it on later? I love how the nav looks in the 370z. Sorry for the long post, I'm super excited! Well, any answers will be appreciated! :happydance: |
:wtf2:

Sorry to crush your dreams, but you're going to have to look for a used one to keep your payment that low.
Sport + Nav + Touring = MSRP of $40k+ BEFORE taxes and financing costs. After tax and financing you'll be looking at closer to $45k. Just to give you an idea: If you borrowed $30k over 6 years at 3.5% interest rate. Your payment would be $462 a month. Now remember you need to tack on insurance on top of that too (likely another $150+ a month). Even a used Touring + Sport will run you around $32k base, plus tax and financing it would be $36k+ Also to answer your question, you cannot add the factory Nav into the car. People will install aftermarket radio decks that have Nav. |

Sorry for all the questions, I am new to all this. My parents took car of everything for my car now. Also sorry for the long and mostly useless, post I was super excited when I found out, lol. |

Check out a used 350z or something sub $20k. Go onto craigslist.org and search the classifieds for cars in your area. A 350z will be plenty of fun for a great price. The 370z is much too expensive for your pay grade. Even a new BRZ/FR-S seems too pricey for you. I'd recommend a used: 350z or S2K. I appreciate your curiosity and enthusiasm though. |

I just used one of those monthly car pay estimation calculator things and I see where your coming from. Well, thanks for opening up my eyes. I will prob just save up more, but I will have one SOMEDAY. xD |

A used one would likely be close to $29k BEFORE tax and financing costs which would put you near $33k total. Less your $5k down payment you'd be borrowing $28k... which would translate to at least $450 in monthly payments. That doesn't include other things like insurance, maintenance, gas, etc. I was like you when i was 17 and wanted to buy more car than I could afford. I ended up purchasing a 350z but my payment was only $240 a month and I had a steady job. At your age your insurance (even registered under your parents) would likely be close to $200 a month. Have you ever driven a 350z? They are fast, fun, and sexy! If you'd take your mustang over a 350z or S2k, perhaps the 370z is not for you. They are very similar, just have different power levels. And I can assure you, even if your 08 stang is a GT, the 350z is quicker. I like stangs, but I personally think the 08 bodystyle is really ugly. You should just keep your car if you like it, especially if you have NO job and won't be making that much money even if you do have one. Best of luck with your decision. |
I really feel for ya kid. I remember being 16 and my parents promising all kinds of nonsense just to get me to shutup and stop thinking about getting a sports car.
Do some research on auto trader for how much an 09 is going for. Then slow down and calculate how much tax title & license is going to cost you because even on 25k it's going to add about 2.3k to that amount. Calculate your interest rate and finally consider how much your insurance is going to go up for a 2 door coupe. The price of the car is never really the issue, it's all the extra baggage that comes along with it that causes problems. Also you're 16, you don't have credit yet. At best your parents are going to have to cosign for you. |

Also, my 08 is only a V6 and SUPER slow which is the main reason I want something else. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not one of those idiots that wants to show off how much power my car has, lol. I love the looks of the 350/S2K exterior wise, but interior wise not so much. Interior is a HUGE thing for me since that's where you mostly are. Honestly, unless I can find a 370 I like around $25k right now I don't think I can do it after you explained it all to me and I did a bit more research on prices/payments wise. If I get one around $25k it will prob put me around 450 a month and I have a steady $100 a month already so I would just need a job for 350 a month. Which I made before just working 8-9hrs a week. Lastly, sorry for coming off like that. I feel like I came off as a spoiled 16 year old dumb*** who doesn't know anything and just wants a nice car re-reading everything. So sorry for that, and you've been a big help helping me understand the payments and having me come down to earth and be realistic. Thanks for your time reading/replying to my dumb posts. :icon17: |

Payments is the easy part. Insurance, maintenance, tires, minor repairs is what will kill ya.
I pay just a few bucks shy of $1k/month for insurance & payment, and easily spend at least as much monthly on gas & whatever else this baby needs. |
If you bought a 370z, at ($23-28k) you have to make over $1000 bucks a month. At 16 years old, working 40+ hrs a week, at minimum wage your looking at 1200 bucks before taxes.. That means no money left for savings, food, clothes, etc..
Wait a few years before you get a 370. Trust me- Take the 5 grand and put it down on a used $8-10,000 WRX or something and you'll still be the coolest guy in school |
get a 350z you can get a 03-05 around $8k-$14k put down $5k and have a small payment and build credit
$450 is way to much for you right now, and this payment will follow you after high school Shoot for $100-$200 payment Your 21year old self will thank you! |
i put 12k down on my 2011 brand new, negociated a grand off the price they were asking and they STILL wanted me to pay over $400 a month. i managed to get them below $400 to $387.96 a month.
your 16 you say? typically these types of cars are death machines because kids/people around that age tend to have the excited mindset of " omg a 370z! sports car FASTT!!!! ima show my friends my ride! hehe no car is as fast as me!" ....... show boat and eventually wreck it and jack the insurance sky high OR blow by an officer and get pulled over for speeding, get your car taken away, and your license suspended AND your insurance rate ROCKETING through the roof on price. you HAVE to keep a level head about you with a car like this or any sports car. it can killl you. all cars can kill IF you let them. i got myself a 2008 hyundai accent and drove it for a few years, getting comfortable with driving. and not letting temptation of speed and racing take hold of me. now? i enjoy the car. and the temptation of speed and high school honda people trying to race me..... doesnt get to me too much now. if i want to let it loose, i take it to the drag strip. also..... the car is in their name? title and all? or would be? that means if you do not make the payments, it will effect their credit. which isnt a good thing. get all your eggs in line before you crack one open.... otherwise you just made a mess of things. |
You sound like me back in the day. From experience i can say just wait and save your money. My parents gave me my 2001 v6 mustang vert as a high school graduation gift. It was my dads, so it was really just a hand me down. I was patient, worked while going to college, graduated after four years, had a job lined up, and purchased my 370z in October 2011 after graduating in April. I was able to put $22k down on a $34k car. Just save your money, you will NOT regret saving. All the while I was dating my future wife, which I married in march 2012.
What you WILL regret is signing up for 6 years of debt at age 16. By the time you've saved up your money the next Z or even the 50th anniversary mustang will be out and you can grab one of those used. Patience is a virtue. In the meantime, have fun customizing the stang, I know I did! (check my albums). Good luck! |
Have you looked in to the FRS/BRZ? That might put your payments with a 5K DP right around where you want it to be. Don't let all the bashing on that car fool you, it's still a really nice car for what it is and any 16-17 year old should be more than excited about having a car like that. Besides, in high school, a car with a back seat (however small it may be) will serve you much better than a 2 seater.
|
If I find one I like for around 25k I might get it, but then again I might wait now until I save up a little more. Also, I don't show of or anything, lol. The main reason my parents even let have a nice car and like the idea of me having a nice car is because I am very responsible. I don't speed, I barely drink which is surprising for a 16yr old, absolutely don't drink and drive, I don't try to show off or anything like that. Shoot, I don't even mention my car to anyone unless they ask me first. Also, the big reason is because I am more mature and resposible than most 16 year olds. (might have something to do with being raised around girls?") I have even already graduated high school 2 years early and plan on starting college in the fall and I even plan on going to med school to be an anesthesiologist. So I'm for sure not gonna be an idiot if I get one, lol.

Who are you trying to convince? Not us I hope? We're just screen names on a forum. What part of Florida are you in?
|
wow at 16 years old I was lucky to take out my dads diesel benz on a Friday night.
All the kids with nice cars back in the day at my high school were the wannabe stunnas who would show up at Del Taco thinking theyre the shiit revving on everyone. "I dont even drink and drive" I found it kind of funny you said that... yikes |
if you decide you cant afford a 370z, the s2000 is definitely a nice choice. Sold my s2000 to go to the 370z but i can say for sure that the S was a much more fun car. The 370z feels more like a mans car with grunt. The S was like a gokart but a very capable machine!

@Ackrite No I am not asian, I am white, lol. I just have my crap together cause I wanna do something with my life as quick as I can.
@bdavis89 Just wanted to put that out there since someone commented saying pretty much what most people usually say to a teenager that I will wreck it while showing off pretty much. And I'm in Gainesville. @buddyz Yeah, idk why I put that in there off all things. Running off of 2 hours of sleep and was rushing to pick my mom up from work. Although, most of the people I know drink and drive so maybe that's why i put it in there, lmao. |

At 16, I agree with buying a used, 'slower' car. Like mentioned, used WRX, modded Civic, or hell even a 240sx with a stock swapped SR motor will be fast enough. I recommend the 240 because:
1 - it was my first car...at the age of 23. So I'm a bit biased. 2 - it's RWD, so you can get a feel for how they drive 3 - cheap buy/maintain. SR swapped 240s go for 6-7k on average. less if you're looking for a stock KA motor or the older body style. 4- It's a good platform to learn about cars. Everything is basic. No crazy electronics/gadgets 5 - still in the Nissan family If you're insistent on getting a Z. Good luck, and :pics: if/when you do. |
Hi
|
Note: I am not trying to discourage you in any way.
Hi, I got my permit when I was your age, wow at 16, you're driving a Mustang already?? That is a great merit in your life and you should be very thankful to have such a nice car at your age. Now, what you're thinking of down payment of $5k and hoping to get a 450 a month...I'm really sorry, but that is SUPER tough. I put down $5k only cuz I wasn't making a lot of money and I am paying almost $600 a month. Honestly, it's sucking my wallet dry and I wish I made more money, but since I am an entry-level candidate with limited experience, I believe raise will happen in due time when I spend some years earning my experience in the field. You're going to have a hard time finding a used 09' or '10 370z around $25k and that is not including taxes and registration. All I can say is good luck. If you can find one, then by all means, get the car. However, since you're 16, I say you should be careful driving a powerful car like 370z. First, what I recommend you to do is find a decent stable job, finish your education, worry about going to good skoo for ur undergraduate work in search of dream career. You can THEN worry about getting a nice car like 370z because it's not too late when it comes to that point in time. Anyway, the post got long, I apologize if you got offended, but good luck in getting the car! You'll like it! 350z ain't bad...just sayin' lol |
I got my pre-owned 370Z from my parentsfor getting a full ride to my school, instead of something more parent-friendly, like a Honda Accord, and the gas and maintenance is manageable with my summer job working 40 hours/week. I can assure you though, unless you can find a job that gives you at least $10 an hour and full time, having to pay for insurance and car payments on top of that would be stressful. I can honestly say that if I were in that position, I'd have went for something much cheaper, like a very used 350 or S2000, which are both as fun to drive.
Tires are going to be a big hit too. They put a big dent in my modding plans when I had to get new ones. That said, it's definitely doable, but you'll be working full time just to support your car, which is a huge load to have in high school. Doesn't really leave you much time to drive it either. FWIW, my first car was a 2006 V6 Camry, which really helped me respect the 370Z when I got it. Haven't f'd up yet! My insurance at first was over $100/month with perfect record and several other incentives. Also, adding nav in later would be hard as hell if you are going for the factory nav system. I haven't seen it done yet, as most people get aftermarket systems. |
Sorry kid. I threw 7k down and still paying 430-ish. I bought the car used @ 28k. Just to give you an idea. Insurance for me is 120/month with a perfect driving record AND I'm 25. I cannot imagine what kind of position the insurance company will bend over in. It will DEFINITELY be without lube though.

If you're going to start college, what do you need a sportscar for? When I was in college all the cool kids drove subarus and tahoes.

that's not a perfectionist, that's borderline OCD...lol just kidding btw :) |
hmmm...
From my experience im gonna give you an advice direct to the veins but first im gonna ask you if is really a necessity for you to get a 370z? You really must have it? You won't keep going in life without it (for now)?
It is obvious that your parents wont buy you one my best advice is that you save, the most you can so you could buy one. Lol you are 16 and i know that you are screaming from the inside out to own one but sadly you cant have one BUT HEY!! you don't need to rush. Meantime better save to get something good (Don't buy used one to keep away the trouble) Don't get me wrong but it seems you wanna impress people around? Most of the people here were 16 included myself and at that time we only could stare at other people which suck and even we didn't had a car... On 2008 here in my country Nissan brought the 350Z (4) base model for the motorshow and it was pricey (55 K) When i saw it i felt in love instatly but i could not afford it at all. Time passed already and after getting a used 350z now i bought a new 370z+mods saving $$ You could buy a 350z for 10k but in my case i would because that is almost 1/3 of a new 370z base model Again, if i were you i would save $$ the most i could to get the car i really want, beside you are 16. 3-4years of savings pass fast. lol don't hate for been honest :tiphat: |
