Might get a 370z soon.... hopefully

Hey guys/gals!
Today is pretty exciting for me since I found out I might be able to get a 370z sooner than I thought. Today me and my parents went to look at a cheap 2000 S10 V6 for only $1,500. It needs quite a bit fixed, but since my dad used to own his own shop it's pretty easy fixes. We got the main things fixed already and we are gonna clean it up real nice and resell it for about $5,000. Now I discussed with my parents that since I want a 370z and they like mine if when they sell it I can get the money and they just take my car and I make the payments myself on the 370z and use the 5k for a down payment. Which they agreed luckily. So now all I have to do is find a job and they are gonna put the S10 up for sale in about a month probably. So hopefully I can find a job soon, no one wants to hire a 16yr old (17 July 26) with only 2 months experience dishwashing. ): Also does anyone know if it would be possible to find a Touring/Sport/6MT with navigation with 5k down or would they be to expensive for 5k to be to little since I wanna stay around $450 a month. Also, if I can't get the navigation does anyone know if you can add it on later? I love how the nav looks in the 370z. Sorry for the long post, I'm super excited! Well, any answers will be appreciated! :happydance:

Sorry to crush your dreams, but you're going to have to look for a used one to keep your payment that low.

Sport + Nav + Touring = MSRP of $40k+ BEFORE taxes and financing costs. After tax and financing you'll be looking at closer to $45k.

Just to give you an idea:

If you borrowed $30k over 6 years at 3.5% interest rate. Your payment would be $462 a month. Now remember you need to tack on insurance on top of that too (likely another $150+ a month).

Even a used Touring + Sport will run you around $32k base, plus tax and financing it would be $36k+

Also to answer your question, you cannot add the factory Nav into the car. People will install aftermarket radio decks that have Nav.

Sorry, I forgot to mention I don't car what year it is. Do you think I would be able to find an 09 or 10 with all that and not have an outrageous monthly payment? Do you recommend any sites I can search for cars on? Also, is it hard to learn stick on a 370 compared to other cars? I was talking to a salesman once and he said I shouldn't learn how to drive a stick on a 370 for some reason. I know how to do everything, I just never practiced...

Sorry for all the questions, I am new to all this. My parents took car of everything for my car now. Also sorry for the long and mostly useless, post I was super excited when I found out, lol.

Sorry kid, if you're asking all these questions you're not ready for this car.

Check out a used 350z or something sub $20k. Go onto craigslist.org and search the classifieds for cars in your area. A 350z will be plenty of fun for a great price. The 370z is much too expensive for your pay grade. Even a new BRZ/FR-S seems too pricey for you.

I'd recommend a used: 350z or S2K.

I appreciate your curiosity and enthusiasm though.

Hmmm.... You don't think that I could find a 09 touring/sport/6mt for about $25-$30k? My bad, I'm just confused right now. On the car I have now we put $3k down, and we got it for $20k. I thought with $2k more + a longer loan (prob 5-6yr) + better credit score it would all be good? I thought about trading my car in, but I only got it a little less than 3months ago so I would be in the red prob. Also, no offense but I would rather stick to my mustang than a 350 or s2k. Worse comes to worse I guess I could save for a year longer and get it so I have about $10-$12k to put down. Thanks for your help though. :/

I just used one of those monthly car pay estimation calculator things and I see where your coming from. Well, thanks for opening up my eyes. I will prob just save up more, but I will have one SOMEDAY. xD

Nope. $20k out the door less $3k down = $17k... that's a lot less than $28k you'd need to borrow on a used 370z.

A used one would likely be close to $29k BEFORE tax and financing costs which would put you near $33k total. Less your $5k down payment you'd be borrowing $28k... which would translate to at least $450 in monthly payments. That doesn't include other things like insurance, maintenance, gas, etc.

I was like you when i was 17 and wanted to buy more car than I could afford. I ended up purchasing a 350z but my payment was only $240 a month and I had a steady job.
At your age your insurance (even registered under your parents) would likely be close to $200 a month.

Have you ever driven a 350z? They are fast, fun, and sexy! If you'd take your mustang over a 350z or S2k, perhaps the 370z is not for you. They are very similar, just have different power levels. And I can assure you, even if your 08 stang is a GT, the 350z is quicker.

I like stangs, but I personally think the 08 bodystyle is really ugly.
You should just keep your car if you like it, especially if you have NO job and won't be making that much money even if you do have one.

Best of luck with your decision.

I really feel for ya kid. I remember being 16 and my parents promising all kinds of nonsense just to get me to shutup and stop thinking about getting a sports car.

Do some research on auto trader for how much an 09 is going for. Then slow down and calculate how much tax title & license is going to cost you because even on 25k it's going to add about 2.3k to that amount. Calculate your interest rate and finally consider how much your insurance is going to go up for a 2 door coupe. The price of the car is never really the issue, it's all the extra baggage that comes along with it that causes problems. Also you're 16, you don't have credit yet. At best your parents are going to have to cosign for you.

Luckily my parents pay for my insurance, lol. One less headache to deal with. :rofl2:

Also, my 08 is only a V6 and SUPER slow which is the main reason I want something else. Don't get me wrong though, I'm not one of those idiots that wants to show off how much power my car has, lol. I love the looks of the 350/S2K exterior wise, but interior wise not so much. Interior is a HUGE thing for me since that's where you mostly are.

Honestly, unless I can find a 370 I like around $25k right now I don't think I can do it after you explained it all to me and I did a bit more research on prices/payments wise. If I get one around $25k it will prob put me around 450 a month and I have a steady $100 a month already so I would just need a job for 350 a month. Which I made before just working 8-9hrs a week.

Lastly, sorry for coming off like that. I feel like I came off as a spoiled 16 year old dumb*** who doesn't know anything and just wants a nice car re-reading everything. So sorry for that, and you've been a big help helping me understand the payments and having me come down to earth and be realistic. Thanks for your time reading/replying to my dumb posts. :icon17:

My parents pay for my insurance. Also my parents would have it all under their name. Kinda hoping that I can find a job soon so that I can start saving early and save an extra grand or so.

DjSquall 07-11-2012 09:24 PM

Payments is the easy part. Insurance, maintenance, tires, minor repairs is what will kill ya.

I pay just a few bucks shy of $1k/month for insurance & payment, and easily spend at least as much monthly on gas & whatever else this baby needs.

NickTurnon 07-11-2012 09:33 PM

If you bought a 370z, at ($23-28k) you have to make over $1000 bucks a month. At 16 years old, working 40+ hrs a week, at minimum wage your looking at 1200 bucks before taxes.. That means no money left for savings, food, clothes, etc..

Wait a few years before you get a 370. Trust me- Take the 5 grand and put it down on a used $8-10,000 WRX or something and you'll still be the coolest guy in school

mattleegee 07-11-2012 09:45 PM

get a 350z you can get a 03-05 around $8k-$14k put down $5k and have a small payment and build credit
$450 is way to much for you right now, and this payment will follow you after high school

Shoot for $100-$200 payment Your 21year old self will thank you!

Nismo89 07-11-2012 09:45 PM

i put 12k down on my 2011 brand new, negociated a grand off the price they were asking and they STILL wanted me to pay over $400 a month. i managed to get them below $400 to $387.96 a month.

your 16 you say? typically these types of cars are death machines because kids/people around that age tend to have the excited mindset of " omg a 370z! sports car FASTT!!!! ima show my friends my ride! hehe no car is as fast as me!" ....... show boat and eventually wreck it and jack the insurance sky high OR blow by an officer and get pulled over for speeding, get your car taken away, and your license suspended AND your insurance rate ROCKETING through the roof on price.

you HAVE to keep a level head about you with a car like this or any sports car. it can killl you. all cars can kill IF you let them. i got myself a 2008 hyundai accent and drove it for a few years, getting comfortable with driving. and not letting temptation of speed and racing take hold of me.

now? i enjoy the car. and the temptation of speed and high school honda people trying to race me..... doesnt get to me too much now. if i want to let it loose, i take it to the drag strip.

also..... the car is in their name? title and all? or would be? that means if you do not make the payments, it will effect their credit. which isnt a good thing.

get all your eggs in line before you crack one open.... otherwise you just made a mess of things.
