Note: I am not trying to discourage you in any way.
Hi, I got my permit when I was your age, wow at 16, you're driving a Mustang already?? That is a great merit in your life and you should be very thankful to have such a nice car at your age. Now, what you're thinking of down payment of $5k and hoping to get a 450 a month...I'm really sorry, but that is SUPER tough. I put down $5k only cuz I wasn't making a lot of money and I am paying almost $600 a month. Honestly, it's sucking my wallet dry and I wish I made more money, but since I am an entry-level candidate with limited experience, I believe raise will happen in due time when I spend some years earning my experience in the field. You're going to have a hard time finding a used 09' or '10 370z around $25k and that is not including taxes and registration. All I can say is good luck. If you can find one, then by all means, get the car. However, since you're 16, I say you should be careful driving a powerful car like 370z. First, what I recommend you to do is find a decent stable job, finish your education, worry about going to good skoo for ur undergraduate work in search of dream career. You can THEN worry about getting a nice car like 370z because it's not too late when it comes to that point in time. Anyway, the post got long, I apologize if you got offended, but good luck in getting the car! You'll like it! 350z ain't bad...just sayin' lol |

I got my pre-owned 370Z from my parentsfor getting a full ride to my school, instead of something more parent-friendly, like a Honda Accord, and the gas and maintenance is manageable with my summer job working 40 hours/week. I can assure you though, unless you can find a job that gives you at least $10 an hour and full time, having to pay for insurance and car payments on top of that would be stressful. I can honestly say that if I were in that position, I'd have went for something much cheaper, like a very used 350 or S2000, which are both as fun to drive.
Tires are going to be a big hit too. They put a big dent in my modding plans when I had to get new ones. That said, it's definitely doable, but you'll be working full time just to support your car, which is a huge load to have in high school. Doesn't really leave you much time to drive it either. FWIW, my first car was a 2006 V6 Camry, which really helped me respect the 370Z when I got it. Haven't f'd up yet! My insurance at first was over $100/month with perfect record and several other incentives. Also, adding nav in later would be hard as hell if you are going for the factory nav system. I haven't seen it done yet, as most people get aftermarket systems. Last edited by DarkJak; 07-12-2012 at 12:59 AM. |

Sorry kid. I threw 7k down and still paying 430-ish. I bought the car used @ 28k. Just to give you an idea. Insurance for me is 120/month with a perfect driving record AND I'm 25. I cannot imagine what kind of position the insurance company will bend over in. It will DEFINITELY be without lube though.

If you're going to start college, what do you need a sportscar for? When I was in college all the cool kids drove subarus and tahoes.

hmmm...
From my experience im gonna give you an advice direct to the veins but first im gonna ask you if is really a necessity for you to get a 370z? You really must have it? You won't keep going in life without it (for now)?
It is obvious that your parents wont buy you one my best advice is that you save, the most you can so you could buy one. Lol you are 16 and i know that you are screaming from the inside out to own one but sadly you cant have one BUT HEY!! you don't need to rush. Meantime better save to get something good (Don't buy used one to keep away the trouble) Don't get me wrong but it seems you wanna impress people around? Most of the people here were 16 included myself and at that time we only could stare at other people which suck and even we didn't had a car... On 2008 here in my country Nissan brought the 350Z (4) base model for the motorshow and it was pricey (55 K) When i saw it i felt in love instatly but i could not afford it at all. Time passed already and after getting a used 350z now i bought a new 370z+mods saving $$ You could buy a 350z for 10k but in my case i would because that is almost 1/3 of a new 370z base model Again, if i were you i would save $$ the most i could to get the car i really want, beside you are 16. 3-4years of savings pass fast. lol don't hate for been honest |

What we have are wants and needs.. This is a good time to start that mindset.. Because trust me, you will battle wants and needs your whole life.. If you can be more practical to start, and start that pattern now, then get your degree.. Trust me, you will be quite successful and have everything you want. Because if you cave in now, and start that pattern, later you will buy the new car rather than save money. Buy the new toys rather than wait and invest for the long term. If you just gotta have it, start with a low miles 350Z.. Because do you plan to live at home and have your parents pay your insurance into your early twenties ? Or do you plan to prepare to be out on your own ? Something to think about...Wants and needs...

If your parents are truly going to pay for your high insurance rate then that's one less thing to worry about. I can relate to you and I know how much you want this car, and I hope you can get it. But most of us here have been in your shoes when we were at your age, so many of us are looking for your best interest.
You really need to do some more research and think about the big picture. For starters, how much do you drive? This car costs me around $80 to fill every 1-2 weeks, $1,500+ in tires every 1.5 yrs, $80 every 3 months in oil, plus random mods. These are the expenses you have to keep in mind with this car. Now throw in your $450 m/ payments, rent, food, utilities, and fun money e.g. drinks, clothes, girls, etc... If you're going to pull all this off, you'd better have a good source of income, or you'll be living on a very tight budget. Last edited by elmz; 07-12-2012 at 11:35 AM. |
