I had a kid in a cobalt SS roll down his window and let loose a random string of obscenities at me (???) followed by revving his engine at me. Small penis syndrome I guess.

i *think* i saw a BRZ this am. not sure. i saw some rice cut across the corner of my eye and it was a small blue thing.
The Speed3 is on the same platform as the older Focus, 2011 Focus updated to new. I'd expect the MS3 in the next year or so. The MS3 will probably just inch out the ST in performance (10 extra HP, 10 ft/lb extra tq, very close curb weight) but the Ford is a much nicer DD, better suspension and probably nicer interier (depends on taste). The big dif is the Ford is rated at 32 MPG hwy, the MS3 at only 25 MPG hwy. To me the big reason to go MS3 is if you are gonna mod out of the gate. There are a lot of gotyas with these turbo'ed engines but the MS3 crowd has worked out the kinks (they've been on this motor/tranny combo for 6 years and they have a very specific order of mods to do it right, you don't "guess" on this platform). I have no plans to mode for at least 2 years so the Ford makes more sense for me. Overall, either are great picks for DD's in my book. The problem with the BRZ/Scion is when some soccer mom with a back full of groceries and a squalling kid blows you off the road in her cheaper Ford or Mazda product.

I don't quite understand the statement that the brz/frs is a better handling/cornering car than the 370z just because it is lighter. From my understanding, one of the main measures of this would be power to weight ratio. The last time i checked, the Z's lb/hp ratio is 9.73 compared to brz/frs's 13.7. In that regard, isn't th brz/frz heavier than the Z? Am i missing something?

Just by going off of this, you obviously never drove a miata, or Mini cooper S

Even though those cars don't have high HP, they deliver a different feel, and a sporty one at that.

They feel quick and nimble and i am willing to bet the BRZ feels the same way.

Those cars don't need HP for fun, they offer a unique experience imo.

You're right... but in that respect you are completely omitting that the Z also gives a unique driving experience. Even moreso than the BRZ/FRS... why I say that? Well let's see how many cars can offer that experience? FRS, BRZ, Miata, mini cooper, and used cars like the S2k, Rx8 and MR2.
In the Z's class, there's only the Z or a new or used cayman. That's it. Riding on rails and nimble handling is enormous fun. But having a 10% reduction in handling on the Z and a 50% power advantage makes for a more interesting car all around. The Z is more versatile in its useage in the sports arena. Though it may a jack of all and master of none. The Z's cards come close enough that a great driver can always maneuver around the Z's handicaps.

i think this is nice car for the value if it was actually priced at 25-26K. The dealer mark up is BS, people paying 30k for a Brz is not cool. when you start getting close to the 30,000 range that car better at least be faster than a V6 camry...

I've been pretty silent on most of the BRZ/FR-S discussions as I only knew so much about the car. On a local site, there was SO MUCH discussion on it for about a year as many of the members are driving budget cars like Civic's, Jetta's and the excitement level is high.

It will definitely become a popular car because of the price point, styling and fun factor.

I finally got to see a BRZ and FRS up close at a couple meets....while again, great job by Subaru/Scion...that car would only be an option if my budget was sub 30K however, actually no, I'd go with a Subaru Imprezza instead.

I did not like the look or feel (build quality) I think thats mainly due coming from a Z. At the end of the day on the street...I rarely see a 370Z and I wouldn't blink twice pulling up next to one on the street.

I think most of us also saw the Time Attack video where the Z beats the BRZ while appearing to not drive balls out

Well, I went up against one in the novice class autocross on Sunday. Both are C Stock class in the novice section: Final Results, #6 - Cone-A-Thon - Sun 07-08-2012

In the process of washing some dishes and being yelled at by my wife, I had a epiphany

Someone post this on that other website if what I'm about to say makes as much sense as I THINK it does

So. The BRZ/FRS is what the "Z" was some 30+ years ago

Allow me to explain. Think about it, there was a ton of hype around an affordable, good handling sporty car coming from Asia from Datsun. Same thing is happening here with the BRZ/FRS

At this present place in time, I do feel the Z and BRZ/FRS are not comparable (most agree)

The Z has a Heritage, a large cult like following, the Fanboyism is deserved. Long time events like Z days, Z Nationals attended be people across all demographics, ages etc. Multiple documentaries, a long history in auto racing. It has reached Icon status

If Subaru/Scion stick with this platform, it could very well follow the same path the Z has and get to where the Z is now...having reached 40+ years etc.

So I had to check myself, step back and stop the hate a second. This car is starting off nicely its not in Z territory at the moment, but I think it could really go the same route eventually, time will tell. So at the moment I take it for what it is...something fresh in the market but I can go to sleep at night not worrying about it...for now.
