Am I Being Unrealistic?
I recently brought my '09 370Z in to a Nissan Dealership to have the oil changed. I'm one of those Z owners that some may say I'm a little paranoid but I never like to let anyone drive my car and I hate it when I need to have it serviced as I know someone has to drive it and they will probably mess around with the seating position. So the guy who meets me at the greeting entrance who is their "driver porter" was a beast of a man, no less than 400 lbs and at least 6' 5" wearing farmer jeans and holding a cigarette between his fingers. Kind of like someone out of a John Steinbeck novel. Anyway, I asked him if he would tell the techs not to adjust the seating position. I never thought that HE would be driving the car into the garage. Anyway, this mountain man gives me an attitidue and says "look at me" and hands me back the ignition "egg" as well as the ticket number he wrote up. i.e. there was no way he was going to be able to drive the car without adjusting the seating position. So I asked him if I could drive it into the garage and he says "I'm not being funny". So not trying to have a confrontation with this guy, I let it go but I complained to an employee at the service desk about him. He said he would let the service mgr know. So right now I am pissed off and thinking of going to another Nissan dealer when my next service comes up. The car is still under warranty. Am I being unrealistic?

I would say you are. If you don't like it, find another dealer or do it yourself. There isn't much you can do as I don't think you can enter the service bay for liability reasons.
Also, the guy didn't do anything wrong. It's not like he beat on your car around the block before returning it. You just didn't want anyone to drive because they may change the seating position. It's not very difficult to adjust in 2 min. I don't go to dealers because I don't like people driving my cars so I do everything myself. Last edited by 10splaya22; 06-28-2012 at 01:36 PM. |

I think you are being an @ss for complaining. If you don't like it, go to another dealer. Seating position can be adjust in under 30 secs *smh*

Yea, this isn't that big a deal. If it is a big deal to you (which is seems like) then do the work yourself.
Let them move the seat man! It WILL be okay!

It's a seat adjustment...if the guy was that big can you not blame him? I'd be more concerned about the quality of the work over my seat being moved. I agree that it is annoying but honestly, is it that big of a deal to move your seat back?

I can understand not wanting to adjust the seat after someone else moves it. It is your car... I think the dealer could have easily gotten a smaller person to drive it instead. I would have held my ground with the bigger smartass guy.
I wouldn't have complained unless the guy wanted to make an issue out of it also. Plus you could have used the smoking thing, he was just smoking, you don't want him in your car period. After I have had someone drive my car, I adjust it..... then after driving around a bit, adjust it a little more, I find myself doing this a few times to find that right spot. So yeah, I understand not wanting to do this.

john- i would rather have the guy adjust so he can see vs keeping your seat position and watch him crash into a pole or lift or garage wall or door way or another building or...
i suggest you mark your seating position in your head. like how many cm forward/aft of the floor mat, how many turns on the knob dials, how many clicks on the recline, etc. you might even find a better position next time. |

Not to offend anyone but I would be paranoid if a 400lb man or woman wanted in my Z. The seats aren't excatly meant to house someone of that size and as such the side bolsters could take damage. Now mind you in a quick 5min drive from the entrane to the garage nothing would probably happen but I could see why OP would be concerned. Not to mention if he has a cigarette in his hand. Who knows if he will put it out before driving. Even if he does that **** lingers and can smell up the car. My step dad is 6'5 and 380lbs. I don't let him anywhere near my Z. Then again, I don't use dealers unless absolutely necesary. Especially for something as simple as an oil change. Do it yourself, it takes less than 30min.

Paranoid owners change their oil themselves and do their best to avoid the dealer at all costs.
You've got a lot more than seating position to worry about. |

I dropped my car off one time for a consumption test and was so paranoid I took about 20 digital pics of the entire exterior and interior. I don't let anyone drive the car... hell when I had the tires changed I brought them the wheels off the car so they couldn't scratch the lug holes. And yes you are being unrealistic... infact we all are... we treat a car like it is life's greatest possesion. It's just a car at the end of hte day. |

Change the oil yourself... I had to have work done at Nissan with my 350Z and they put a nick in one of my Volk rims and cracked one of my airwalker Japan sideskirts.... Needless to say it was my last visit to Nissan. They paid me around $1000 for "fixing" the items so no complaints BUT rather then stressing just do it yourself best and ONLY way i do things on my car.
