I agree that the GT-R isn't quite the performance value as it was when it was first introduced, but the performance benchmark has also gone up with the 2012 and now 2013 cars. I find the GT-R is more usable on a daily basis for me since it has a full trunk and somewhat usable rear seats if I have to throw a bag or a third body in there for a short trip.
If I was able to afford both my Z and this car I would have but I would have been divorced for sure.

So what other cars are outperforming the GT-R in the price range but aren't daily drivers?

Really?! I guess EVERYONE that has ever owned and sold a GT-R never could actually afford one. Wow!

New rule: If you ever replace your car with one that is less expensive, you never could have afforded the previous one in the first place.

I have to disagree with you on that some people arnt willing to spend that much money on a car straight up and I am one of them. Id rather pay things off like my house.Max range for me would be for a new car 40 grand maybe... as much as I love cars I just dont feel the need to spend over that amount for my performance needs. people just think differently thats what makes this country so diverse. So until the gtrs are less than 40 meh..Id get a z ,STI ,used gt500 ect....... and be quite happy

Some people are willing to spend a lot on cars some aren't. There are people who spend way more on other hobbies like model trains than we ever could on cars. Its all up to the individual.

I always think about one of my clients with a net worth of about $20m. His daily driver? A Civic sedan! He spends his money on other things... cars aren't important to him.

I have clients that spend way too much and clients that I don't think spend enough.

And like others were saying, its absurd to think that anyone that trades their gtr for a z is doing it because they can't afford the gtr. There are a million other reasons they could be doing it.

And real car guys know that its entirely possible to get more driving pleasure out of the Z than the gtr. It all depends on what you want as a driver.

+1........... IMHO I think anybody can lease a GTR, but far from few can actually afford to buy the GTR. When you are leasing a car you are going to pay a couple to several hundred less each month on your monthly car payment & in the end you will never actually pay the full price of the car. So at the end of the day it is always about money. A lot of people are just trying to impress others & trying to keep up with the Jone’s IMHO.

I completely understand & agree with what you are saying here boomee. Having a really nice house is far more important & getting that equity too than spending $100k plus on a car. A house will always appreciate in time, but a car is a depreciating asset (99% of the time).

Now with that being said & I am going on a limb here that if money wasn't an issue as FairladyZ stated "if we threw money out the window", then most people would buy a high-end car & probably a GT-R over the Z. This is assuming that all your finances are in order, or taken care of (kids education, your/wife's retirement, house & etc). If your finances are not in order (or taken care of), then this would be a little be foolish. In order for me to even consider about spending $100k +- on a car I would have to be making $250k a year at least IMHO.

That's where I want to be to spend over 100k on a car as well. Idk why but once I get over 40k for a car I feel like there are a lot of other things I could be doing with that extra cash... like funding my million other hobbies or traveling. To each his own!

+1....... I wouldn't want to have a car note that could also be a very nice mortgage payment. Paying close to $1k or more on a car note is on the crazy side if you are not making the big bucks.
