Rough Day
Well...this happened today as I was driving to get lunch on my lunch break. Someone turned into my lane, trying to turn into a shop just off of the road. To avoid hitting him head on, going 55mph, I swerved around him, trying to drive in the middle lane where the guy causing the accident was turning from. His front passenger bumper clipped the rear passenger side of the Z, and sent me sliding into oncoming traffic, where I was ultimately stopped by slamming into a Volkswagen Jetta, head on.
I am upset, and the only reason I didn't wait until tomorrow to post this is because I can't sleep. Had to get some stitches in my knee, and I'm banged up pretty bad. However, I realize how lucky I am, considering the speed limit on the road where the accident happened is 55mph. I estimate that I, as well as the other car involved in the head on, were still going approximately 50mph when this happened. Also very lucky that the guy that caused the accident, admitted fault, and he was the only one given a ticket out of the 3 involved. Hope these pics don't hurt you guys as much as they hurt me. I may have more tomorrow, these were all I could get before being taken away in the ambulance. Icing on the cake...I made my car payment this morning... http://i.imgur.com/Sqf9Kl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/p3mnal.jpg http://i.imgur.com/uzSWul.jpg :icon14: |

Omg! Glad you're basically ok and are able to post here, omg. I'm sure youre heartsick as well...ugh :-(
|
Wow, thank goodness your physical injuries weren't worse at those speeds!!! Hopefully you're up and about quickly and I hope the insurance companies involved, compensate you fairly for your Z!
|
Sorry about the accident. Glad you are OK 'cause it could have been worse. Heal up and get another one.
|
Sorry to hear about that crash, but very glad you walked away from it. Hopefully the guy's insurance will get you back in a Z soon!
|
sounds like your lucky to be alive! sorry about the Z!
|
Wow, that's hard to look at. Glad your able to walk away and hope things get back to 100%.
On a side note, I don't know if it's me or not but I've noticed from this forum there have been numerous accidents involving the Z and for the majority of the time significantly damaged. I've been part of many forums but have never seen so many accidents reported. I recall numerous threads where people have been hit, or even lost control while no one was around and got severe damage. It's just quite odd to see so many and frequent accidents on the forum. Is the Z an accident magnet? |
Man, that sucks, but it could have been alot worse. Just remember, the car is replaceable.
Judging from these pics, yeah the front end is trashed but the cabin seems pretty intact. The Z definately helped save your life. |
Wow, there really isnt that much damage taking in the fact that both you, and the jetta were going 50mph. Thats 100mph of force! Cars are ALWAYS replaceable people's lives are not. Take a couple days off work if you can and relax. Im sure everyone here is just glad that your still alive man. Take this negative and turn it into a positive, come back bigger and better with a pearl white nismo or a 40th. Keep us posted on your condition and insurance status. Get well soon bud

Ouch. Very sorry to see. Glad you're alright, though. It could have been much worse. How's the Jetta driver doing?
Also good that the turning guy manned up and admitted fault... that makes it a lot easier! |
Ouch, get well soon! :(
|
I am glad you are OK. The Z does not look so good.
|
Happy to hear that you are ok. Sad to see the Z is not ok. Try to get some rest.

Thanks for all the support everyone. I was able to walk away from this accident with no serious injuries. It also seemed that I was the most injured, as I only saw minor cuts and scrapes on the Jetta driver. Looking at the paperwork, my official injuries are chest wall and abdominal wall contusions. I had several cuts/scrapes/bruises on my legs, so I didn't check under all of the bandages while at the hospital because they all felt minor. When I got home and went to get in the shower and took one of the bandages off, I found this...so I had to go back to the hospital for stitches...
http://i.imgur.com/dP5Rx.png Other car involved, we are both facing the opposite way we were driving... http://i.imgur.com/WnMTcl.jpg It could have been a lot worse, and I'm definitely glad I could walk away, and that no one else was injured. And 100% no doubt, the engineering effort put into making the Z safer, saved my life. Obviously I don't think I'm a hero or anything, because swerving around the old man coming towards me was purely reaction. However, the split second decision I made to attempt to go around him in the median/yellow lane probably saved both of our lives as well. I saw open median to my left, where the guy was turning from, and to the right was an Auto Shop, with a parking lot full of people and parked cars. On the other side of the median was two lanes of oncoming traffic. I would have made it around the guy, if he didn't overcorrect and put himself back into the middle lane, where he was just coming out of...Anyway, I beleive things would have been much worse had I collided with the first guy, when I was going the speed limit of 55. I did have a short time to get on the brakes before colliding, so this is where I get my estimate of 50mph at impact from. |
Haven't you only had the Z for like 2 months? Bummer.
I am glad that you are ok! The Z can always be fixed, but you can't. Good Luck with the whole insurance process. |

Did your airbags deploy?

I know at least one of them did, that's why I'm thinking that this Z is a goner :shakes head:

Bad luck...

praying for blessings to you

Very Glad
you made it. Yea, its tough out there with so many unattentive drivers. Never know when someone will just suddenly change lanes, pull out of nowwhere, etc. Im always lookin sideways every which way when driving the Z. Glad your ok but obviously hurtin both physically and mentally.

The stretch of road where this happened, is apparently notorious for accidents. Just last week I took my girlfriend to the same shop that the accident causer was trying to go to and there was a similar accident, in almost the exact same spot. I was also told at the hospital that accidents frequently happen on that same stretch of road. Thanks again for all the support everyone! |
Glad you are ok. Were you wearing your seat belt? Did you go to the hospital in ambulance? If they total it and you want to stick to the Z this time get the sport.
Had a incident like that a while back and I was able to brake and steer around it with ease in my sport. I think it is stupid for Nissan to even make the base without the sport brakes and tires. I had a good look at the brakes and tires on the base the other day that is just asking for an accident in the Z. The Base BMW 135i comes with 6 piston calipers in the front and 2 piston in the rear and an underrated DI motor with twin turbos @ 300 Hp. If you are interested in a new car that has roughly the same performance stock, but a hell of a lot more luxury and kick *** technology check it out. Also the modding the car is easier and cheaper a tune is $600 for 60 whp and 80 torque so 361 whp and 380 torque. Most people have them in the mid 12s with a CAI and CBE with tune. Think that will be my next car. |
Damn that's ugly... I'm sorry but at least u okay ! Life goes on so b proud of that

I'm so glad your ok. At the end of the day your car is replaceable and your life is not.
|
glad you and everyone else is ok! sucks about the car, but its replaceable.
|
Glad to hear your ok but I have to laugh at the people saying the car is not that bad. Looks totaled to me, and who knows how damaged the engine is. Whats your plan if she is a write off? Another Z or something else?
|
Bottom line is the Z gave you another day to be upset at what happened. It saved you.
50mph head on is pretty fast. Just be happy you can post about this, the Z is replaceable. The z is totaled for sure. |
Oh yeah, the car is totaled fer sure. When you do get another one, DO NOT get the new Midnight Blue.... that's the color I'm getting.... JUST KIDDING! See, you've cheered up already. ;)
|
Thank goodness ur ok bro... cars can be replaced. Swerving is a risky move brother. Just slam the brake next time something like that happens. Brakes are your best friend.
At least you are doing well for the type of accident it is. I had an accident before in my first Z and its rough. :( |
I would say that z is totalled and his insurance will pay for it so look on the bright side get a new z ;)

I might get some bad responses to this next comment because this is a car forum, but... FÚCK THE CAR! You have insurance, it's all good and dandy to say it sucks to see a Z gone, but it's MUCH worse to see a Z DRIVER gone! And thank God for, God, your accident is a terrible accident, and no shattered bones is a miracle! If you need anything, I'm sure more than one of your Z brothers will be here for you, I might be in a different state, but if you need anything from Texas, give me a shout (And I made a payment the day my last car was totaled and it sucked, but insurance overpaid for the car! AND if you don't get enough to buy a new car, I'm sure we can set up a fund for you, $1 donations, lol. I think we have enough members to make it possible) |

WOW....... Man I'm glad you are all right & came out with some minor burses/cuts. Things could have been a lot worse for you & the other driver. Hopefully you are able to get a new Z.
