Thanks for all the support everyone. I was able to walk away from this accident with no serious injuries. It also seemed that I was the most injured, as I only saw minor cuts and scrapes on the Jetta driver. Looking at the paperwork, my official injuries are chest wall and abdominal wall contusions. I had several cuts/scrapes/bruises on my legs, so I didn't check under all of the bandages while at the hospital because they all felt minor. When I got home and went to get in the shower and took one of the bandages off, I found this...so I had to go back to the hospital for stitches...
Other car involved, we are both facing the opposite way we were driving... It could have been a lot worse, and I'm definitely glad I could walk away, and that no one else was injured. And 100% no doubt, the engineering effort put into making the Z safer, saved my life. Obviously I don't think I'm a hero or anything, because swerving around the old man coming towards me was purely reaction. However, the split second decision I made to attempt to go around him in the median/yellow lane probably saved both of our lives as well. I saw open median to my left, where the guy was turning from, and to the right was an Auto Shop, with a parking lot full of people and parked cars. On the other side of the median was two lanes of oncoming traffic. I would have made it around the guy, if he didn't overcorrect and put himself back into the middle lane, where he was just coming out of...Anyway, I beleive things would have been much worse had I collided with the first guy, when I was going the speed limit of 55. I did have a short time to get on the brakes before colliding, so this is where I get my estimate of 50mph at impact from. |

Haven't you only had the Z for like 2 months? Bummer.
I am glad that you are ok! The Z can always be fixed, but you can't. Good Luck with the whole insurance process. |

Very Glad
you made it. Yea, its tough out there with so many unattentive drivers. Never know when someone will just suddenly change lanes, pull out of nowwhere, etc. Im always lookin sideways every which way when driving the Z. Glad your ok but obviously hurtin both physically and mentally.

The stretch of road where this happened, is apparently notorious for accidents. Just last week I took my girlfriend to the same shop that the accident causer was trying to go to and there was a similar accident, in almost the exact same spot. I was also told at the hospital that accidents frequently happen on that same stretch of road. Thanks again for all the support everyone! |

Glad you are ok. Were you wearing your seat belt? Did you go to the hospital in ambulance? If they total it and you want to stick to the Z this time get the sport.
Had a incident like that a while back and I was able to brake and steer around it with ease in my sport. I think it is stupid for Nissan to even make the base without the sport brakes and tires. I had a good look at the brakes and tires on the base the other day that is just asking for an accident in the Z. The Base BMW 135i comes with 6 piston calipers in the front and 2 piston in the rear and an underrated DI motor with twin turbos @ 300 Hp. If you are interested in a new car that has roughly the same performance stock, but a hell of a lot more luxury and kick *** technology check it out. Also the modding the car is easier and cheaper a tune is $600 for 60 whp and 80 torque so 361 whp and 380 torque. Most people have them in the mid 12s with a CAI and CBE with tune. Think that will be my next car. |
