MPG Disappointment
So there's the new Porsche Boxster. Beautiful car. Great performance. Spanks the 370Z in just about every way...which it should, since it costs almost twice what a Z costs. And it gets 30 mpg, while my 2011 Base+Sport is getting about 20 mpg. I'm bummed. I didn't buy the car for its fuel economy, but really!
What do you think about the 370Z'z mileage? |

How you drive the car is as important to mileage as what the car is capable of.
Are you hitting the skinny pedal too much? Are you in crowded urban traffic? I give my Z the beans when I drive it anywhere, and I get 20mpg. If I drove it more slowly and more on highway, I know I could greatly improve on that. |

The Porsche Boxster gets 30 MPG? According to what?
This? Because if you're basing it off the manufacturer's website then.. I should be getting 26 MPG in my Z.

Have you driven a Boxster and gotten 30 mpg or is it rated 30 mpg? If you go by EPA ratings, the Z is 26. Some people here get like 17 mpg and some get like 25, it really depends on your driving conditions. I get 20-22 in Southern California traffic but got over 25 cruising back from Vegas. Also, I don't know if the Boxster spanks the Z in everything, I thought we were supposed to be gunning for Cayman in terms of performance. IMO, the Z looks better also, more masculine and agressive than the Boxster, but that is subjective.

Manual Transmission Boxster is rated at 20 mpg City / 30 mpg Highway for a combined 25 mpg on a 265 hp engine.
The Z is rated at 18 mpg city / 26 mpg highway for a combined 22 mpg on a 332/348 hp engine. So you can be disappointed in the Z's mpg, but there's no disappointment if you compare it to the Boxster mpg.

.and did you see the Boxter interior? The one I saw looked like 1950 all over again....with that gaudy red leather.. The only thing that car has that we don't have is the prestigious name ...If our Z had the Porsche badge...people would pay $20,000 for it and a lot more for maintenance....and look down their noses at us as they drove by..IMO |

haha... yeah, there's some truth to this. I definitely agree a Nissan Z is a man's car: the way it drives, steers, goes, looks.
Porsche makes very efficient flat-6 engines. Their PDK transmissions increase gas mileage. Also, light-weight chassis. |

Okay, lets do a little math, and here are the particulars. Miles driven is 10,000 miles a year. 370Z averages 20 miles a gallon (city/hwy) = 500 gallons a year. Boxster averages 25 miles a gallon (city/hwy) = 400 gallons a year.
Let's say a gallon of gas costs $4. 370Z, $4 X 500 = $2,000 a year. Boxster, $4 X 400 = $1,600 a year. In a Boxster, you save $400 a year in fuel. To make up the $20,000 purchase price difference.......it would take 50 years in simple math!!! But being that we're not simple people, let's take that $20,000 that was saved due to buying the 370Z and we put it in an investment that earns 4% interest. We would make $800 annually. Not sure about the gas mileage.....but the Greenbacks mileage sure goes a longer way with the Z!!! Plus the Boxster spanking the Z in just about every way hmmm? |

And 4% is conservative...Also reinvested Dividends along with the gains would put you even higher... Well played...
