Default Hit a deer tonight :(

So probably the worst night of my life. Hit a deer, front bumber and hood is jacked. The hood wont even open. the radiator has a hole in it because when i got out it was hissing. I was only two blocks from my house so i drove it home.

Does anyone know how insurance policies play out in this case in the state of florida. I have nation wide and im wodering if they will waive my deductible.

Beyond upset wont even sleep tonight!

As long as YOU'RE ok, that's all you should care about... And I believe you'll have to pay the deductible...

I have almost hit a deer too... How bad did it feel? How fast were you going?

You're ok that's what counts.

I think in most states this is covered with insurance. Hope you're taken care of.

This should most definitely be covered by insurance. I know some policies are very picky and will only pay for this under comprehensive (meaning a larger deductible) as opposed to collision, due to it being an animal and not necessarily another person in their car, or any of many other insurance-related reasons.

Since you said you were going the speed limit but managed to puncture your radiator, I'd guess 30-40 miles an hour?

That said, you're lucky the deer became lunchmeat and not you. A friend of mine hit a large buck and totaled the car completely. It was a small rural road with a 55 mph limit so the deer came in through the windshield and broke his arm.

Good to hear you're fine. Forgive the random story.

Like others have said, the most important thing is that you are ok. I was in a car that hit a deer once, luckily it jumped and the car was low enough that the fender just clipped the legs so we didnt have the major impact of hitting one. Your insurance should cover it, but most likely under comprehensive. I hope there is nothing wrong structually. Make sure you take the car to a body shop that you know and trust. If you dont have one, ask the local nissan dealer who they use for their repairs as a start.

A quick googling brings up:

Nationwide - Fender bender with a deer customer reviews - product reviews - read top consumer ratings

Nationwide insurance deductibles? - Yahoo! Answers

Glad to hear you're okay.

Couldn't help but posting this...

Quote:
Never take the deer home with you! This is considered poaching in most states, especially if you do not have a hunting license and it is not deer season. If you want to take the deer home as a trophy and are caught you will be slapped with a huge fine, lose your hunting privileges and Fish and Game will seize your trophy. It’s just not worth the risk.
Dunno why but that just makes me laugh...

I have hit three deer (no damage-thank god!) and at least that many raccoons (stoopid coons) with several thousand dollars worth of damage-go figure. Never got any guff from insurance company. Did have to pay the deductible however...no breaks even if it's an animal. Glad you're OK- this could have been really bad.

Glad you are OK. The insurance should pay for it minus your deductible.

I am glad you are OK and your insurance should take care of it. Do you get to keep the meat? It is already tenderized courtesy of the Z.

As Chris mentioned before, taking the deer back with you is considered poaching... Living in Wisconsin for school, I asked a friend of mine what happens if he were to run over a deer.

Well, first, you call Fish and Game, who will either instruct you to shoot if if you're a hunter with a valid license, or they will shoot it themselves if the deer is still alive. At that point, various things happen, since you can technically only keep it if you've got a valid hunting license, but at the same time, only during the proper season and only if you've got a tag... the story was long and convoluted, and I'm sure any hunter will have a better idea, but long story short...

You can't keep the meat! TenderiZed as it is. Could go for a venison sausage for breakfast right now.
