Yep, Thinkin' 'Bout Tradin' In On A 2013 Midnight Blue
........ Yep.
Atlanta Traffic Sucks. I'm old. My knees hurt from standing 12 hours a day anyway and a clutch isn't helping when stuck in traffic. Soooooo, I've been thinking about an automatic/paddle shift with the Touring Package so I can have all the cool electronic stuff that I like. Dark blue on cars is also my favorite color. Yet, I'm torn.... |
Atlanta traffic sucks I sit in it to and from work and I also have a 7AT this is the best auto I've ever owned,
Go for it.:driving: |
If you have the money to comfortably do the switch, do it!
|
At this point it becomes...
Do you own the car? If not how much do you owe? Would you be upside down on a trade? If so, how much? Make the smart financial edition financial decision... but if the current car is causing extreme discomfort and you can comfortably make the car payment, I say go for it. I test drove the 6 speed and the 7AT, I bought the 7AT. P.S. Im having a tough time not upgrading to that color as well..... My favorite color is a navy shade of blue. |
The midnight blue looks awesome IMO. And the 7AT would be a lifesaver in ATL traffic...but of course, it is rarely a good deal to trade, and the BC is also a fantastic color.
|
Yeah the 7AT is great for traffic. Also that midnight blue will look amazing!
|
The good news is you are still thinking Z. If I had to drive in traffic like that every day yeah, I would want an auto too. I am fortunate that my job allows me to flex time so when I had to commute I would go in at 7:30 or earlier, leave at 4. I have not had to have an auto for the past 20 years in NE traffic.
The bad news is...I feel sports cars are meant to row. Any way you can just use a little beater civic or such to commute, and keep the Z as is? The loss in depreciation for a trade could buy you a great beater. Heck, with good weather down there I'd probably find a NB miata auto to commute in :D - b |
The 7a will blow your mind when you use the paddles. You will appreciate, faster shifts, better torque feel and downshift rev-matching when applying high performance tactics. This is one auto you can drive with pride due to its capability. It makes you see the "SPORTS CARS" have an amazing alternate future. Good luck.
May I. Advise k&n filters, silicone hoses and stillen ground wire kit, just to improve transmission and throttle response. Midpipe resonators not needed. Also improves throttle. Car is stil quiet at idle, but louder on cold start and quick revving. It really wakes up. Makes it feel more like the sports car it should be. |

Regarding transmission, wonder if there will be some tweaks on the 2013 to improve it? Getting the 6mt with my 2013Z, so getting the best of both worlds regarding trans. |

As far as being upside-down on payments, I think I should actually be about 10k ahead of the game. Plus I have some cash to throw down so the payments shouldn't be a real big issue. Shifting isn't causing any extreme discomfort, but it isn't really helping either. Of course, I'm 47 and already taking Cosamin on a regular basis. Had knee surgery years ago and work automotive retail for 10-12 hours a day standing. I was thinking about getting another beater car as a daily driver but then my narcissistic side came out and said: "If I drive a beater, people 90% of the time won't see me in a kick-*** Z. #### that." :icon17: Then there's the killer Midnight Blue aspect...... :yum: |
The 7-speed auto will fit the character of a Z I think.
Can someone post a link to pic's of the Midnight Blue ? ? ? |

:yum:

I love the colour too!... but those wheels! :barf: I just don't like the twist....
|
Yeah that looks great! I think the wheels might look good in person.
|
I don't mind the new 19" wheels, but honestly, I'm thinking about getting the Base Touring model. I have heard a rumor that the 10 spoke cool looking roadster wheels will be the new standard 18" base wheels, which is a nice change from the same old 5 spoke cookie cutter wheels that come standard on every vehicle made..... and I think they will go great with the Midnight Blue.
I have also grown to like the lines more on the non-sport model without the rear spoiler. Everything just looks like it flows better to me. I know there will be a slight handling difference with the new "euro tuned" suspension and I plan on test driving both. Since I'm opting for the auto daily-driver version anyway, I don't really plan on taking it to the track so the more comfy the suspension, the better. Not to mention, it will be a tad bit easier on the wallet. Heck, if I want better handling, I'll just lower it an inch. :icon17: |
Get the 7-AT with no concerns DarkZ.
My Z is a daily driver in Houston, and I didn't even consider getting the manual. Once you learn the paddle shifters; i.e. they become second nature, it's a blast driving. |
Thinking of doing the same. Want blue or the new metallic red. 7AT like I have now. Its a great machine with the auto!
|
Do it.
Even stock the 7AT shifts faster than the average driver on a MT, and you can tune the shifts to be even faster with uprev. In heavy traffic (Tampa is horrible bad too), put in D and cruise. |
Meh, I decided to just keep the one I have.....
NOPE, NOPE, JUST KIDDING! I'm in the process of paying off a couple of credit cards to get them out of the way and then I'm going to the dealership to talk Midnight Blue, 7AT, with the Touring Package. I'll probably play my sick little game and stand my ground, telling them that if they want my stimulus package, they will throw in the Sports Package for free. I'm still going to buy one whether they do or not. I just want to count how many times the word "package" gets tossed around. Heh. :icon17: :nutswinger: |
I drive in a lot of traffic.... I don't even notice i'm using a clutch and stick anymore

I too have bad knees and MT can get ugly in a lot of traffic.
That being said my 350z was AT with the shifting on the stick so I could move gears up and down, once i got it down it was tremendous fun, but now the 370 MT is much better.... but thats a personal opinion. Once you test drive it you will know what is best, AT can be a lot of fun and so quick and responsive because no user error can be had really when shifting. MT is starting to become a thing of the past. In 04 I was a pansy for having an AT now im an outsider having a MT. Times, they are a changing haha. G/L! |
loving mine fwiw... easy in traffic - fun to paddle around the twisties...

I bet Atlanta is a lot like Houston - a 30 to 60 minute crawl of stop and go misery at break neck speeds approaching 15 mph for distances of 30 feet at a time. |
Quote:
I lived in houston for a while and traffic is horrendous there but I was surprised at how much Edmonton traffic sucks when I got here. |
Damn sucks to hear, explains why you would want to trade up for a AT.
I also like the new colours  |
I went 7AT for the same reasons, stop and go traffic and bad knee.
Hell even the Aventador only comes in auto and eventually all Lamborghinis will be auto only. I like it and drive with manual mode almost all the time. :driving: |
I would not do a trade in. Just sell your car on the open market and then buy the midnight blue. You are almost assured to end up ahead that way compared to a trade in. It all depends on what they are willing to offer you on the trade. Also keep in mind that dealers play games with trades. They may offer you a higher trade in but then not cut you as good a deal on the purchase price point as they might have otherwise.
Also never talk payments only price point, and secure you own finacing unless they have a promotional 0% or something really low like that. The Midnight Blue will look sweet though. |
Oh great..... Now I'm kinda diggin' Gun Metallic since I think it would go better with the red brake calipers, especially after I tint the windows. #### ! :leghump:

What truly bothers me about the 2013 are those LED lights. They look incredibly forced. They don't look fluid with the car like german makes do.

Yeah, but it was integrated well on the GT-R. On the Z, it just looks like they took a shortcut to add a feature in the most cost effective way possible and it didn't work. |
sounds like you can afford it and won't so go for it. you will not be sorry you switched to the 7at. it will not take a back seat to any auto out there. within it's price range. don't mean to jack the thread but on one of the videos they said nissan made some adjustments to the suspension on the sports package.
anyone know what it's about. |

On the GTR, if it didn't have those little grooves, Nissan would have still put them there anyway. Sorry to take OP's thread off course, but by all means, get the new Midnight Blue Z with the 7AT and enjoy!:tiphat: |
