Don't laugh, but baby wipes also work good for cleaning stuff off your car as well ! My wife accidentally discovered this on a camping trip years ago when we got some pine sap on my truck. : ) We haven't camped in years, and our kids are getting old enough that we won't be using wipes much longer, but we will still buy them..... miracle cleaners !

As A Civic Owner I can. only say.... SAVE THE Z and take the Civic.
|
Im driving to Corpus for a few days in a week or so, and I'm lookin forward to stretching the Z legs. My girl has a mini S and I thought about taking it cause its a little steroid go cart but I cant resist driving the Z down!
|
My only thing on the Z is comfort. My knees give me issues on longer trips.
Well, that and the weak paint, and expensive tires... |

You gots to stop and stretch them legs playa!

Having now completed my 4,200+ mile trip (see: http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...ther-road.html ) I can say with some authority that you can certainly take your Z.
I did find that space can be a premium when packing enough cloths and other goods for a trip that long but I managed Ok. I also will say that long stints behind the wheel can be a bit uncomfortable - there are only so many ways/places you can put your legs/feet and/or move around to keep the blood flowing so stopping at least every couple of hours (rest areas, gasoline, etc) is a good idea. That said, for a two-seat performance sports car, the 370 ain't bad on a long trip and better than most if not every other in this category plus it's a lot of fun!!! |
Back in the early 90's my great-grandmother drove her 300zx from Colorado to Michigan. Now I know the thread is about 370's, but if a lady in her 70s (at the time, she's about 92 now) was able to do it in a 300, you have no excuse not to do it in your 370. :)

They have those clear 3M tape on bras. Tests have proven it can deflect
Small pebbles at 60 mph without damaging the bra. 70mph damage only to the bra. But I heard some people getting Good protection up to 80mph. Price is between $600 to $800 and has a warranty. Not sure for how long but I've heard some people say 1 year. Others up to 3yrs. |
Leaving Fri. 7/10 for a weekender in Harrisonburg Va. Will report upon return.

780 mile trip report.....
Took the Z on a 780 mile weekend roadtrip to the Shenandoah Valley, Va. The Z ran great. Oil temp. did not go above 220 degrees, even with some pretty aggressive hill climbing in the mountains. The yellow color attracts a nice assortment of bugs, which hover about and land on the car, in addition to those splattered on the grille. An annoying squeak was identified as coming from the plastic molding on the passenger rear where the hatch rests. Mileage was around 25 m.p.g. overall.

3000 miles last week
Last week we ran 3000 miles out to the "Badlands" then on to "Mt Rushmore" and then turning south to "Pikes Peak" in our new 370. At that point we then turned east and returned home. This trip this year concluded the trip we started last year in our old 350 when we went to the desert south west then west coast and on to the Pacific northwest before returning home after 6998 miles. On that trip we were in the Z for a month. The trip last week was just six days. My 65 year old wife says the Z's ride just as nice as her 300C even for those distances.

Road trips is one of the main reasons for getting this car in the first place! Can't wait to take it for a family visit in Virginia sometime later this year. Hope to hit the tail of the dragon while we're there as well. Heard it's a blast.

The self-sealing paint is an option in the UK, don't know why it's not available here. Does anyone know if it actually works?
|
I took a trip to Cape Canaveral to watch the shuttle take off, caught a few chips on the bumper, but what is a Z without battle scars?
|
I just drove 360 miles round trip last Saturday. I filled up the tank just beforehand and still had 45 miles on the countdown readout when I got home. That's a ways on one tank! (It even included a few triple digit runs)
Drive it like you love it. If it was an F50 I would've done the same thing. |
Whoever said "I refuse to own a car I'm afraid to drive" has got it right.

MY Road Trip
I bought my Z in February of 2009 and in October I drove it from Southern New Hampshire to Auburn Alabama. Even hit the Tail of the Dragon in Tenn/NC . Z has a great cruise range of 400+ and I was able to stay away from a ticket which to me was the bigger celebration. I had a blast and would do it again in a minute. As much as I love the car if you cannot drive it and enjoy it,why buy it. Have a blast!

We did around 1300 miles roundtrip to ZdayZ 2010, no problem. |
I know it is not a Z but i did 2300 miles in 24.5 hrs straight in my G37S and it was not an issue.

Just a suggestion for those of you wanting to hit the "Tail of the Dragon"...there are a LOT of bikes that hit that area at high speeds, semi-trucks that still pass through (and have to take multiple attempts at the turns), and most importantly the 5-0 in that area are pretty bad.
Try hitting up highway 28...the hellbender...it's just south of the National park and I have found it's even more fun than the Dragon for a couple of reasons: 1) Hardly ever any cops 2) Much less traffic than the Dragon 3) instead of the hairpin turns (usually with semis parked in them), its more continuous "S" turns back-to-back-to-back-to-back, etc... I have found that this is great for fun, spirited driving. Also google the "Waterfall Byway." This area is a nice drive that could be either relaxing or spirited and has many places you can pull off, swim in some watering holes/springs, and take some pretty dramatic photos. The "Cherohala Skyway" is also a nice ride. its pretty high up and is one lane each way, next to no cops, and some nice long winding roads on the sides of the mountains with some great scenic overlooks. The 'Foothills PKWY" also runs off of this and is a good time (and a fun way to get from the skyway/dragon back to the north side of the park. Not to bash on the dragon too much, I just don’t care for tickets and the Dragon is a cop magnet and is overrated IMHO. I was on a sportbike at the time of my last trip (we go every other year from Dayton, Ohio to Gatlinburg, TN) and ride the mountains and twisties surrounding...there are many other fun roads out there without the high visibility of the Dragon. In any event, there is definitely some great areas to drive around there...enjoy!! |
I did about 400 miles round trip this weekend, and surprisingly, there was very little bug/dirt acculmulation. When I stopped for gas, I just did a quick wipedown on the front bumper with quik detailer and hit the road again.

4900+ miles last 2 weeks
Late last week we returned from yet another road trip vacation. This time it was 4924 miles in the 370. On page 4 of this post is last years post about our trip west. This year we went West to Dodge City, KS then on to Tuscon, AZ (following after Watt Earp). Then north to Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. From there on to Vail and Aspen, CO. Then we drove to Sister Bay, WI before turning south to Central Illinois. So over the last three summer vacations we have spent several weeks and almost 15,000 miles in a "Z". Still do not have any complaints about ride or gas mileage. This year the mileage was better than last at about 28MPG average (car now has 13K where as last year it was brand new). Anyway it was again a great ride............

+1 on casey.strader's recommendations.
There are some roads down there that I enjoyed a lot more than 129. As for debating between the Civic and the Z for a road trip, you're really asking this question? Maybe if it was winter, I'd consider my beater. Or if I absolutely had to take more stuff than I could fit in my Z... Drive it! It's not like this car is a collectible that's appreciating in value. As for bugs and stone chips, I keep a spray bottle of quick detailer and a microfiber cloth in the car and de-bug the front at the end of my day. If I was on a buggy road trip, I might do it every fuel stop. I figure when I get an unacceptable amount of paint damage on the nose, I'll just get it repainted. I'll be driving from Harrisburg, PA to Raleigh, NC this weekend. About 6hrs driving time, and I'm gonna enjoy every minute of it! |
Just got back from a 2700 mile trip over the 4th and left the 370 parked in the garage. Ended up taking the Accord because I've gotten to where I just can't stand the seats in the Z. I guess its either new aftermarket seats that are more comfortable or the 370 is going down the road. Any suggestions for new seats from those who've changed out their stock seats?

Month ago or so i drove from my apartment in San Antonio Texas, to my house in Seattle WA.. Roughly 2500miles. I purposely didnt tape/bra my car. I needed an excuse for a new front fascia!
|
I drove from Houston Texas to Naples Florida about 1 1/2 months ago. My back felt so horrible when it was all done with. I'm almost 20, so its not like I have a bad back its just the seats are not meant for long journeys.

Curse?
Well I posted about my trip to Alabama and back and the next day I drive my car on a ten minute road trip and a rock popped up and chipped the nose on the hood. Man that stinks but I guess that is what you get when you drive these days. Dang it!

Just did a round trip from Harrisburg, PA to Raleigh, NC.
837 miles in 12 hours over a 36 hour period. Made the 396 mile trip down to my friend's house on Sunday morning in 5 hours and 42 minutes. 6 hours flat if you count the gas/pee/food stop. Google maps told me it would take 6:58. Ha! Trip home took a little longer because I hit the DC area around 5PM. Decided to pull off for dinner while I was stuck in lapped traffic. Really, this car is a delight at cruising speeds on the highway. Is it as plush as my wife's Mercedes? Hell no. But it's a lot more fun. Mileage seems to suffer a bit when you're cruising over 3,000 RPM, and I made several visits to "the danger zone". All in all, I don't think 25mpg is horrible for this kind of car. |
