Credit Card Fraud
Just wondering if anyone that went to ZdayZ this year has discovered that their credit card was used illegally? The reason I ask is that last week, someone from Denver, CO tried to make an online purchase, but the company they tried to make the purchase from called to verify that we had placed the order. Fortunately for us, we were able to cancel the order and the credit card before it was used again.
One of the last places we used it was during ZdayZ in the surrounding area and also at Fontana in the restaurant. We can't for the life of us, determine the exact location, so I wanted everyone to look at their bank statements very carefully. I found out the name of the person and filed a police report with the Denver Police department, but I suspect that nothing will happen. All I can say is to be diligent whenever a credit card is used.

I have one credit card that I use for autopaying my cellphone bill. It's more or less the same charge every month. Then one day I got a charge for $2500 in truck services at a Chevy dealership in North Carolina. Needless to say I was outraged so I called my credit card company to contest the charge. The customer service rep kept asking me if I'm sure those aren't my charges that I just "forgot about." I kept telling him I never even been to North Carolina, much less paid $2500 in truck services. So the credit company investigated and eventually sided with me.
So a few weeks pass and I think this issue is done with. Nope, the Chevy dealership is adamant that I spent $2500 in truck services at their dealership so they recharged my credit card for the same amount. I call my credit card company again to complain and tell them this isn't the first time this has happened. Also, I demand to see a receipt or invoice with my signature stating I was there on the day in question spending $2500 at their dealership. So my credit card company reinvestigates and I eventually get a copy of a receipt with my "signature." On the signature line was, SEE DRIVER'S LICENSE. I call my credit card company again to raise hell, the stupid customer service rep kept suggesting that maybe I was in North Carolina and I just forgot. I told him to just look at my past credit utilization history for the last 3 years, it's been the same $90 cellphone charge every month then this oddball $2500 bill from some random dealership. They eventually cleared the charge, canceled that credit card, and reissued a new card w/ new numbers. During the time it took for the credit card company to investigate the charge, I refused to pay the $2500 even though it was accuring interest. At the end they cleared the charge and the interest. I suspect that my credit card number was stolen from someone on the inside, either the credit card or cellphone company. The lesson to take away, you can never be too vigilant.

Are you absolutely positive that you weren't in North Carolina on the day in question? Kenchan was!

I've had my debit card and credit card numbers lifted somehow and people clean out/max out my cards. Very frustrating but everytime it has happened the bank/credit card company resolved the issue very quickly.

Always check your Accounts at least once a month..
You have a certain amount of time before the banks will credit your account. If you wait 60 days, you are screwed.. Also people who steal should have their Thumbs removed...I will offer my services.. I need an ax and a tree stump, and a thief...I am emotionally ready to hurt someone if needed...

This happened to me. Amazon notified me of a fraudulent transaction and cancelled an account that was opened using my CC the day after I paid my balance at FVR.
I called FVR and everyone I spoke to played dumb, so who knows. It could be their system was compromised by an outsider. Lesson learned, don't let FVR run your card! I just reserved my cabin for next year, with a check. Hopefully I don't find out about someone committing fraud with my check...

Thanks for the FYI. I just checked both my CC's I used while there. So far no issues.

my paypal debit card has been compromised three times now, and my USAA debit card once. Its pretty frustrating, but I use them for virtually everything I do.

I must have dropped my credit card and someone picked it up. I went to charge something and found it missing.. went on line and found out they had used it three times...got a gas fill-up, a car wash and rented a movie..
Weird.... ( Kenchan, have you been renting any movies lately? ) Last edited by RiCharlie; 06-13-2012 at 09:54 PM. |
