They hate me...I own Oil stocks, I have an F150 that gets 16MPG, and a Z/28 that gets 4 to 9 MPG, and the 370Z.... I am hated by the Prius crowd.....Just the way I like it...True granola bars with a license...They "occupy" the road, hahaha

Any time I see one, or a Smart Fortwo, I downshift and stomp as I roll by. Partly as a nod to environmentalists, but partly as a way of saying, "Look what I can do. Don't you wish you could do this?" |

Hi, Bucketlist, This is a true story--right up to the last sentence. I once hired a gentleman who cut down trees, and the second day he brought his wife--and three children, all around 5-7 years old. They had named the kids after pickup trucks. One of the little girls was named Sierra after the Chevy, one Dakota after the Dodge. And the little boy was named F150 after the Ford. |

Hi, Bucketlist!
Endocarditis can be a very sneaky disorder. Once cured, however, unless it has damaged valves that then must be replaced or repaired, it's cured and unlikely to come back--assuming the valves are normal to begin with. Frequently there's some underlying valve problem that allowed infection to settle there... |

Hey, I am all for people buying whatever they would like..
If they want to save money on Fuel, then right on for them...It is the American Way. Freedom of choice.. But I make my choices and respect what others do also.. But I don't like being told by Prius owners that I am wrecking the planet.. Oil and Coal will be here for a long time.. I worked in the Solar Business 10 years, so i have done my part to save the planet, and I truly believe that Green energy is a great ADDITION to our Grid, but they force the issue to REPLACE fossil fuels with an all or nothing agenda...Together it makes great sense... Replacing ? Never. Mike.

When I was about 10, I was watching the nightly local news, and there was a lady being interviewed. Her name was, and I am in no way kidding, "Velveeta".

Back to the topic, which was Z speed, I have been running on cruise whenever on the interstates. It is too easy to creep upward. It does allow me, however, whenever any situation occurs that looks as though it might require braking, to poise my foot over the brake pedal, saving a bit of reaction time, and still keep on the gas pedal simultaneously.
Another topic: My first tire fill with nitrogen. I gather this is worth it, decreases need to refill tires, but how easy is it to get a nitrogen refill? Costs much? I bought from a dealer rather distant, hard to get back for such minor maintenance, though they did offer the free refills of nitrogen. |

So I have to be checked often to keep an eye on it...Also I take antibiotics for any teeth cleaning, ect... Teeth and mouth maintinence are critical in preventing a repeat of my problem.. If I have to have the valve replaced, Duke University has a procedure that goes in the side so they do not have to crack me open, but time will tell. THANK YOU SO MUCH for thinking of me, and posting your info... That is the sign of a caring person right there...I LOVE THIS SITE... Mike.

Its not the old Cimino study, it's a more recent one, although it does cite that study.
It's a pdf of what appears to be a summary (really slides from a presentation), but it has data, references, etc. Hi, Jordo! Thanks for all your work. I think I remembered it as "Joan Cimino" when it was really J.Cirillo, but same data--that the drivers on the freeways were safest, had lowest accident rates, when about 10-12MPH over the median speed. I think that the NHTSA presenter took the data and then carefully LIED about the findings. The data don't quite fit with their "overviews" and "conclusions." In particular, they claim that the highest accident rate was at 2 standard deviations above median--but the curve--rate of change--was much steeper SLOWER than the median, and so the accident rate 2 standard deviations BELOW the median was higher and WENT UP the slower the speed at time of accident. They are so invested in speed as a cause--because, I submit, that it's easily measured and lucrative--that they can't grasp the truth and publicize it. I'm going to keep searching for the original data. I'm a fact junkie. --SailFree |
