The worst being that Illinois recently has changed their laws favorably for us enthusiasts lowering the limit to 35% from I think 50%. Chicago said no-no and are imposing what's call "home-rule" and are sticking to the old law. which everyone really knows actually means "we run the state so we can do whatever we want"

It's been a busy day of car shopping for mrs. gurney. First, we had a killer breakfast at a local restaurant called Harry's.

After breakfast, we hit the Mazda dealer first to test drive a CX-5. Both of us were surprised with how much we liked the car. It was tight, roomy enough for us, looked good. Biggest gripe was the dealer. We had to complete a customer bio, provide drivers licenses, and endure a speach on what the car could do. Oh, and the salesman I made the appointment with was busy with someone else, so we got pushed off to another salesman. We followed the exact route he wanted to go, and the whole time I had the feeling the guy didn't trust us. When we got back, we were grilled by the sales manager as to why we should buy the car today. Jeez.

Next, we were off the the Honda dealership to test drive the CR-V. If there was ever an example of how to win over a customer, these guys wrote the book. The guy was paged, showed-up in less than a minute, and the FIRST thing he did was introduce himself and thank us for coming out today.

He then led us over to a CR-V in the showroom, and asked us to wait while he pulled-out a CR-V to test drive in the exact color combo we wanted. He pulled the car around and we jumped in. He said take it where ever we wanted. No time limit, no set route. After the drive, he said let him know what we decided, and if the CR-V was our choice, he'd start looking for exactly what we wanted when we were ready to deal. This was also the only dealer that provided a killer price over the internet.

The Honda dealer and the Mazda dealer are owned by the same people.

We then headed over to the Acura dealer. As requested, we called and let the salesman know we were headed over to test drive the RDX and gave him the time we'd be there.

We rolled in within five minutes of the time stated, and proceeded to wait 20 minutes because no one could find the guy. At this point the sales manager comes over and says he'll personally go look for the guy. Ten minutes later, I go up to another salesman, and tell him all I want to do is test drive an RDX, and that we've been waiting for 30 minutes for our salesman.

The guy apologizes, walks into his office, and comes out with the keys to an RDX demo. He hands the keys to me, and says "go enjoy". He told me to take the car for as long as I needed. He didn't even come with us! When we got back, it took another ten minutes to find someone to give the keys back to.

Looks like mrs. gurney wants the CR-V which costs about $11k less than RDX. I want the RDX, but it's her car. I guess I shouldn't complain.

Tomorrow is the 30+ car cruise to Galveston. It should be a blast!
I have found the Mazda dealers to be pompous a$$es, just as you did....and as far as the Honda dealers, I had the most pressure free enjoyable experience when I bought my CRX (fun car) way back in the day!

I have never called ahead to tell anyone I wanted to test drive a vehicle. Did you do that in opes that the process would be smoother?

It's the end of the month, I am not surprised the Mazda dealer has to push to meet the quota.... LOL

But I am surprised when Acura, the premium brand of Honda, provide such an below average service…

Anyway, he was an apprentice for many years, slowly learning the trade, getting the little bait fish just right in the hook, taking all of the abuse and ribbing from the more experienced guys. It was a hard-scrabble existence for him, but it was his life's dream so he kept working and working at it until he became a Journeyman.

It was a blessed day in our family the day we all went down to the docks to greet his returning boat, bringing him safely back once more to port -- now a journeyman. We were all so very proud of him and I can still picture his smiling face as the boat pulled into its berth.

I cannot remember how long he was a journeyman -- I was older and on my own and we kind of lost touch for a while. I do, however, remember getting the telegram from him announcing that he had finally reached the peak of his profession. A tear came to my eye and my throat tightened when I read that my uncle had finally made it. He was officially a Master-Baiter.

Anyway, Ms. Pintsize, keep working on it and you too shall master whatever you set out to do.

As it turns out, it is a stupid chick book about self-important, lost middle aged women who seek life's bigger meaning by turning into sluts and cheating on their husbands, etc.

I am taking it back.

We had a good time at Mosport today. I was surprised to see the 370z Nismo's their. The guys were very nice to talk to and even offer to let Mini GaleForce sit in one of the cars for a picture. We tried, but mini GaleForce was like a cat over a bath tub. Weird because at home all he wants to do is sit in Daddy's race car. We met dustin@Z1motorsports, he was a good guy. The team had him working like crazy.

I took over 800 pictures, many of the Nismo's, a few of the Hawk brakes GTR and every other cool car there. I even took a few pics of mustangs because I know a few mustang guys here would like to see them.

All the teams were very accommodating except for the big money Cadilac team. Even saw Randy Pobst set his hood on fire, needless to say, it was toast.

I'll post up a link to pics when I get a few uploaded.

The three salemen knew I was coming this morning and asked that I just give them a head's-up when I was on my way. That's what pisses me off about the Acura dealer.

Yeah Gale, those are good guys. My Nismo rims came off the #51 car. Greg Shaeffer has kept in touch ever since and has taken care of a couple of my buddies at St. Pete and Long Beach.

We need some pictures of mini-Gale.
