Nismo vs. Nissan Motorsports
Can someone explain to me why Nismo is not the same thing as Nissan Motorsports? Because I've always been under the impression that they are one and the same, and that Nismo is an abbrviated form of Nissan Motorsports.
In fact, I did a little Googling on this, and the Wikipedia entry on Nismo supports my understanding. Nismo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Quote:
I keep seeing people say that it's a Nissan Motorsports oil cooler that's coming out, not a Nismo one, in the bazillion oil cooler threads we've got going on here, and it's driving me nuts. So am I wrong? Are they not the same thing? Because it sure looks that way. Someone please enlighten me.

That's always been my understanding, since I first heard of Nismo many years ago *shrug*

Nissan Motorsports = Nismo
Nismo is their trade name, like a nickname, I guess. Nissan Motorsports is the incorporated name; a formal full name. It's not uncommon that there is confusion, but that's why you pronounce it correctly - "knees moh" instead of common English phonetics, which would make it "nihz mo."

I do believe since it's Japanese; it's pronounced with a long e sound for the i.
So it's KNEE-SAN EDIT: That being said, I'm not your resident Japanese translator; I'm Korean.

But I do say Nismo the easy way that sounds less awkward: nihs-moh. Never heard of 370 Zed... I'm a zee thing I guess.

Zed is how Canadians and Brits pronounce Z.

Back to the original question. NISMO refers to Nissan Motorsports International and is primarily based in Japan. Nissan Motorsports is the U.S. based racing arm of Nissan North America (NNA). Last year NNA elected not to fund motorsports activities for the first time in almost 40 years, but Nissan Motorsports continues to operate by developing and selling parts to hardcore Nissan racers.

Aren't South Africans basically English/Europeans?
So then it's basically solved; NISMO is more or less the same as Nissan Motorsports? Because I know Nissan Motorsports is the racing division/racing tuner, but that's only what I know for here in the states.
