My hair has grown back and my erectile dysfunction has been completely reversed after doing this simple mod! Thanks guys!
lol seriously, best mod ever and no issues to be concerned of. Delayed starts aside (rare) everything works as supposed to! |
Performed fuse 48 ejection week ago...no start delay, no adverse effects...thanks again.
|
I'm doing this as soon as i get home!
carpool to work today! Repp for everybody! |
Okay okay, and please don't anybody stomp on me for bringing this up, but I may have found one small, but possibly significant problem with the fuse pull. (If you have kids riding with you)
I pulled mine (its an 09, so totally necessary) and now the passenger side child-seat airbag/sensor/disable function does not work. I can't *positively* say the CB pull is responsible, but would like to know if any of you have noticed that since the mod, the little airbag disable light (and associated airbag disable feature) does not function anymore when you install a child seat. I have read the manual and double checked my install procedure several times and my airbag is definitely not behaving as it was designed to. I have also detected just a hair of delay. (perhaps 1 second) but like most people here, do not mind in the slightest On the other hand, as long as you don't put kids up there, the airbag (if it really *is* F'ed up by the mod) is the only thing I can detect that is adversely effected. I'm interested to hear if anybody else has noticed this effect. Perhaps I have some unrelated system malfunction to track down. If nobody else has this problem, I will troubleshoot it by reinstalling the cb, but to be honest I do not really want to dig into that deeply buried cb box again unless I have to. |
By the way Baer383, Awesome job. I love the mod. I'm just putting this out so people know what they are goofing with. Safety first and all!

putting something as simple as a steering wheel lock on a car from factory that can at any given time leave you stranded, is stupid too.

Let me describe the issue: If you pull out the seat belt all the way (until it retracts in "one way locking retraction mode") and lock in a Child seat, the airbag indicator on the dash should light up yellow to indicate that the airbag has been disabled. It may be a co-incidence, but I noticed that after CB pull this no longer seems to function. It would be easy to check by anybody who is interested by: 1. pulling the steering lock CB. then: 2a.putting in a car seat per instructions in the manual. or 2b. simulating a car seat install by pulling the belt all the way out as if putting in a child seat but NOT ACTUALLY bolting in a seat just inserting the buckle AS IF there were a seat installed. This test should take about 10 seconds. If you take the above steps and (like me), your airbag disable light does not illuminate, then we CB pullers (with kids) have something to be aware of. I'd be interested to hear what others say. Perhaps I just had a coincident malfunction and this is a non-issue, but I think it would be an important thing to know if it affects airbag functionality. p.s. I will definitely troubleshoot this and post my findings next week when I get back to my car. Until then I encourage Car seat installers to double check their airbag system. p.p.s. Please do not take these posts as a criticism of what I consider to be an AWESOME DIY mod. I just want to make sure we know what systems we are affecting. Perhaps I am mistaken and this malfunction is just a coincidence in my Z. |
I have the airbag issue too

okay this was untrue. I just got back from dealer he says my airbag is fine. The light is not supposed to stay on while driving it is only supposed to light up a moment during start to show the airbag is off. He says this is new to the Z the older Nissans had the light stay on. :icon14: Anyhow sorry if I confused anyone. |

Yeah, like I said earlier this is a very COOL DIY mod!

Doesn't the steering lock help prevent/deter theives from stealing your front wheels from getting stolen? i.e park, turn wheel all the way, car off, lock wheels.
Heard from a friend that this works. Any truth to it? |

^i know the saying. But how is it possible to steal the front wheel when its turned and locked in wheel well?
Also, we put wheel locks in hopes of "detering" thieves. My ? Does turning your wheels "deter" thieves? |

Delay? Fuse removal? Steering lock? I feel stupid because i didn't understood NOTHING at all :wtf2: I wanna understand this post to know what to do on my 2012...:icon23: |

Here's some pictures and procedure to remove the steering fuse lock (sorry for the poor quality and follow at your own risk).
Before you begin, disengage the steering lock by pressing the "start" button "without" starting the car (don't press your clutch/brakes for automatics). You will hear the lock disengage then begin. Step 1: Open the hood (if you don't know how, don't proceed any further). Step 2: Remove the battery cover (if you don't know how, skip to Step 9). Step 3: http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55405 Remove the battery bracket. There are 4 plastic clip holding it. Pop the plastic clip open with a flat headed screw driver and pull it out. Slide the bracket towards the passenger side fender as the bracket is under the sway bar. Step 4: http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55404 Remove HALF of the plastic weather stripe. The weather stripe goes all the way to the driver side so you don't have to remove the entire thing. There are 4-5 clips that needs to unplug. To remove them, gently twists and pull upwards (these clips are plastic so they will break). Step 5: http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55403 There are 2-3 (forgot exactly how many and forgot picture) plastic clips holding the cover (highlighted in blue at Step 4). Remove the clips with a flat head. At the top corner of the piece there's a soft plastic piece locking the cover (hard to see in the picture,), lift that piece and it will unlock the cover and slide towards the front of the car. Step 6: http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55402 You can now fully access the fuse box. Pop open the two clips and slide the box upwards. Step 7: http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55401 Open the box and locate the fuses and remove it. I couldn't locate the 370z fuse tweezer (for those who does, a picture would be greatly appreciated), so I used my Audi's tweezer. Keep the 10amp fuse in a safe place just incase. Step 8: Complete, do the reverse order and put everything back together and you are done. Step 9: Enjoy your ride. Time: 10 mins (took me longer to write the DIY than actually doing it) Difficult: 1 (compared to an oil change 5) 2 weeks in and no issue or warning. |
Awesome DIY, before u pull out the fuse do u need the car to be on ACC???
