Thanks for the DIY, removed the fuse today. Those clips are a bit tricky, would recommend a large flathead and twisting them up. A hammer used lightly might help getting them back in.

Yeah the clips are alittle hard to deal with.:hello:

Those of you who removed the fuse, does the steering wheel still lock in position when car is off? I assumed that was what we were disabling...

No the lock is disabled.

Ok NVM i just checked. Forgot how hard it is to turn those big tires without power steering! LOL

Holy crap just 2 days ago my steering lock died completely and my car wouldn't turn on. Called a tow truck already but an hour and a half later it magically started to work again. Intelligent key light has been on for the past 2 weeks intermittently. Still working so far but no idea when it's going to die, going to do this DIY tomorrow while it's still working! I really hope this works

Here's some pictures and procedure to remove the steering fuse lock (sorry for the poor quality and follow at your own risk).
Before you begin, disengage the steering lock by pressing the "start" button "without" starting the car (don't press your clutch/brakes for automatics). You will hear the lock disengage then begin.

Step 1:

Open the hood (if you don't know how, don't proceed any further).

Step 2:

Remove the battery cover (if you don't know how, skip to Step 9).

Step 3:

http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55405

Remove the battery bracket. There are 4 plastic clip holding it. Pop the plastic clip open with a flat headed screw driver and pull it out. Slide the bracket towards the passenger side fender as the bracket is under the sway bar.

Step 4:

http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55404

Remove HALF of the plastic weather stripe. The weather stripe goes all the way to the driver side so you don't have to remove the entire thing. There are 4-5 clips that needs to unplug. To remove them, gently twists and pull upwards (these clips are plastic so they will break).

Step 5:

http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55403

There are 2-3 (forgot exactly how many and forgot picture) plastic clips holding the cover (highlighted in blue at Step 4). Remove the clips with a flat head. At the top corner of the piece there's a soft plastic piece locking the cover (hard to see in the picture,), lift that piece and it will unlock the cover and slide towards the front of the car.

Step 6:

http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55402

You can now fully access the fuse box. Pop open the two clips and slide the box upwards.

Step 7:

http://www.the370z.com/picture.php?a...ictureid=55401

Open the box and locate the fuses and remove it. I couldn't locate the 370z fuse tweezer (for those who does, a picture would be greatly appreciated), so I used my Audi's tweezer. Keep the 10amp fuse in a safe place just incase.

Step 8:

Complete, do the reverse order and put everything back together and you are done.

Step 9:

Enjoy your ride.

Time: 10 mins (took me longer to write the DIY than actually doing it)
Difficult: 1 (compared to an oil change 5)

2 weeks in and no issue or warning.

^That should be added in the first post! Except you don't have to remove the weather stripping, you can pop the entire piece in step 5 along with the weather stripping still attached (just make sure you don't move it too far out so the weather stripping won't fall off).

Just pulled my fuse today and it does start quicker than usual since the steering wheel doesn't have to unlock itself every time you start the car. Thank god, saved me $500 from buying a new part :)

THIS IS FOR THE PEOPLE WHEN YOUR IS FULLY LOCKED. My 2009 370z showed the key light on the left side turning on two times once yesterday and once today. Later at night it did not turn on. I went online to check it out came across this. And thought the fuze taking off would help. Nop.. Because I could not push the button at all. Well I thought about it and got mad. If I jump the lock of the steering out so that I can just push the button so the lock pops out. I kicked my steering wheel while I was outside three times hard... my friends thought I was crazy. I heard the lights come on I pushed the button everything good told my buddy stew to get the fuzr out bammmmmm... Engine on we are golden... Thank You Sir baer383 for this saved me a lot.... :))))))))))

If you remove the fuse box next to the battery put the car in accessory then pull the steering lock fuse.

Then just put everything back where it goes and that's it

I just finished removing my fuse. An easy job. Hardest part was getting the fuse out - I was beginning to think they had glued the damn thing.
Only tool I used was a small, flat-blade screwdriver for the plastic pop-rivets.

After popping the hood, I removed the battery box cover. Then I pulled the pop-rivets from the plastic piece that holds the battery box cover and removed it.
Removed the pop-rivet from the plastic piece that goes between the bottom of the windshield and the battery box and wiggled it out of the way. There is a piece of weatherstripping on top of the windshield-battery box piece that I did not have to remove - I just set the piece on top of the engine top cover.
The fuse block I wanted to remove is the one to the immediate right (sitting in the driver's seat) of the battery. There are two tab that hold the fuse block in its metal bracket - I pushed the tabs to the left (toward the fuse block) and pulled up on the fuse block. I reached down and guided the wiring harness past the bottom of the metal bracket (didn't want to take a chance on nicking/cutting any wires or putting too much stress on the connector).
Next I laid the fuse block on top of the battery (I checked to make sure there was nothing conductive on back of fuse block) and removed the cover. Looking at the diagram on the cover, I determined that the steering wheel lock fuse was the fourth from the bottom on the left column of fuses. After verifying that the steering wheel was unlocked, I pulled the fuse (would probably have been much easier with a fuse puller).
Then I put everything back together.
Only difficult part of the re-install was getting the windshield-battery piece back in place. There is a lip that has to go under the windshield that was a bit of a pain. Lifting up on the passenger windshield wiper will give you a little more room to maneuver when removing/installing it.

Hope that helps.
