Was this a stupid move or am i paranoid

First i admit it's all on me...anyway to the point.. from day one iv'e always used
Mobil 1 oil and filter for my 370. and had no issue's at all meaning no oil burning.

so when i reach 35,000 i purchase an extended warranty for my car just in case
because i plan on keep it until at least 75,000, and it was only 995.00. i mean one steering wheel lock and it almost pays for it's self. anyway back on point
salesman say's oh by the way it also comes with a years worth of free oil changes. i think great deal. so fast forward iv'e gotten 2 free oil changes since
i bought the warranty and i think nothing of it until today when i check my oil
and it's down about 1/4 quart. i know that's not much but to me it is...

so i call dealer and ask service tech what kind of oil where they putting in my car. and he says they use regular mobil 5w20.. i know don't flame i should have made sure what was going inside my ride.....sorry to ramble but would this make the car start to burn a little oil. which is more than it ever did.

again sorry to ramble but it's got me to thinking...did i screw up or not to worry....

Well it is highly recommended not to go back once you use Syntec. I'm not sure of the possible repercussions but I would immediately get synthetic back in. So go back for an oil change IMMEDIATELY.
Its your responsibility to tell your dealer what's in the car, but! At the same time. If you are using the same rep everytime you go? And you been using synthetic. He should have caught it in the computer. I don't know how liable they are but I would make them put synth in for free because they also should have asked. They extended you a warranty and its there job to ask what you use.
Does that make them liable??? Probably NOT? But both of you guys messed up. So see if they will make right on your oil? You may get lucky.
Your oil changes aren't free though. They are rolled into your warranty. So essentially, you paid a pretty low fee for your warranty. At least that much.

Good luck. Sometimes people just things out of courtesy. Build a relationship with your sales rep and they take care of you? If this guy is no good? Ask a manager who is the highest rated rep in customer satisfaction and deal with him.

Make sure they don't try to charge you extra to switch your free oil changes to synthetic. I believe it is recommended for our cars to run synthetic or esther oil and they should know (being the dealer) and should not be offering you any kind of services that do not meet the recommended ones for our cars. I think it's BS when they offer me a free oil change but not with the oil that is recommended for my car.

I had this fight... they wouldn't gave me a free upgrade... but I did get a FREE $100 oil change and refunded my warranty. This happened with my other Z.

Yes get it switched back ASAP. Retro grading the oil could have consequences but as your not at high miles it shouldn't be an issue.

I've been running synthetics in my cars for about 20 years and all the warrantied oil changes have cost me the extra $$ to use synthetics every time. They are never part of the dealer's "free" changes. Dealers will usually charge you the difference in price between the regular and synthetics. If they try to stick you with the full cost you might want a word with the service manager. If you don't want to be taken to the cleaners by paying dealer price take your own with you. If you do, tell them you have it with you, where it is in the car and make them put it on the work order. Sometimes they will refund you the cost of the normal oil but not always, if they do stick with that dealer for future changes. They should never charge an extra fee for putting in the oil you brought with you, if they try it's service manager time or drive off.

Yes I have had them miss the 6 bottles in an open box on the passenger side floor and put normal oil in only to find out what an SoB I can be and make them do an immediate second oil change. :icon14:

thanks for the good advice. I guess I had a brain fart
on this. I'm usually very careful with my Z

brucelidat 05-24-2012 10:22 PM

Yeah, they will definitely try to charge you like $75 extra for the esther. Bring your own oil.

LakeShow 05-24-2012 11:21 PM

Change it back to synthetic and you should be fine. But do it ASAP

f*cking Nissan dealers never cease to amaze me :shakes head:

My dealer recently offered me like $200 for 4 oil changes (or something like that) and its the ester oil) so that is not bad at all IMHO. So far the ester oil has been working good for me as my 2010' has 40k miles on it and doesn't burn a drop.
