List of Chrome Parts

I just bought a bottle of chrome polish and was wondering if someone had a list of all the parts that are chrome so that I don't miss any... sometimes you get that "chrome-like" stuff that doesn't respond well to the polish.

there really isnt much chrome besides the emblems

front emblem, rear emblems, steering wheel emblem

And they are just chrome plated plastic. You really don't need chrome polish anywhere on a Z...

^^ yeah, they're chrome plated plastic

chrome parts such as bumpers and trims were in the 70's-80's........now it's gone

So what's the scoop with chrome plated plastic? Is it safe to use chrome polish on it?

I used some on the tailpipes, as they sure look chrome-y. Seems to polish them up pretty well.

Actually, now that we're on a similar topic... is the stuff that wraps around the dashboard and doors leather or pleather? My guess is (fairly low quality, unlike the seats) leather, but it doesn't seem to absorb leather polish like most leather does, so I could be wrong.

Don't use a chrome polish on the plating.

As for the doors/dash... not even leather at all. Just soft-touch textured material.

Only the exhuast pipe tip can be polished.

molamann 06-14-2009 02:38 AM

The dash/doors material doesn't seem to soak up anything so all I really do is just dust em off with a microfiber towel.

Thanks guys! I'll just try some basic ArmorAll on the dash... maybe that will make it look a little better.

Armorall stinks. Do not use.

Just use a damp cloth to wipe it down and then a dry cloth to dry it off.

what about Turtle wax ICE that they have for interiors

Yup...Armorall is junk. If you use anything use Vinylex or Aerospace 303 protectant.

While we are on the topic of cleaning supplies...I remember my 03' 350 being a huge pain in the *** as far as cleaning the doors and plastics inside. Used all sorts of "products" but always looked streaky and greasy...more opinions...is a damp towel the way to go on the new z's?

BanningZ 06-15-2009 05:27 AM

Boo to Armorall. That stuff is just worthless use Meguiar’s or Vinylex instead and Microfiber cloths.

earwicker7 06-15-2009 11:54 AM

What's up with everyone slamming Armorall... I like the way it looks and it makes it really easy to know which parts need touch up... when it starts to lose the shine, it's time to do it again.

Are there any non-subjective reasons not to use it? IE, it damages certain types of finishes?
