Is a tune really worth the money?

I have heard you really only get about 6-11 horse power from a tune. I have my stillen gen 3 long tube intake and my fast intentions CBE with test pipes. The next step would be a tune but is $500 really worth it for just a difference in drivability?

Its not all about the HP increase. These cars with all those mods tend to run Lean. If you want to get the most out of the mods and keep the car running safe get a tune.

You can get quite a few hp from a "tune", just need to ask yourself why the Nissan engine calibrators didn't "tune" them. I'll let you ponder that.

Umm... they kinda DID.

Very conservatively.

@OP, the tune is like night and day. The actual hp/tq numbers aren't that different most of the time, but the throttle response is way better, the car feels much smoother, plus you get the maps so nobody can steal your car at night and take it for a joyride. You can also get way better mileage, I've heard stories of 30mpg and up, if you're into that kind of thing.

Most likely you're not going to see a massive increase In fuel economy, from what I've seen the VHR motor makes better power when it's a little richer, and you'll most likely have your foot in it a lot more

The improvement in drivability is amazing tho, really night and day

Because they need one cookie cutter tune to fit thousands of cars that will be all driven in vastly different conditions in different regions of the world with different levels of maintenance and mods..

Every engine is different and will not perform identically as the next, you can always benefit from a custom tune

u will pick up a ton of throttle response and all the low end tq/hp u lost by adding all that air with the breather mds.

This really depends on what you are tuning for. Do you want more performance or better fuel economy? Performance helps fuel econ but I doubt a performance tune will get you over 30mpg. You can tune down performance and tune up efficiency and you definately will see high fuel econ.

Make note this cookie cutter tuned to handle both high desert heat to low Canadian snow to Seattle's endless rain.

Whenever you change anything to aftermarket parts, you're deviating from the original manufacture specs where the manufacturer set it to handle wide variety of environments.

If you know you're not cross country from Canada to Mexico and just leaving your car within your environment, a tune will definitely increase both power and gas mileage because you're narrowing the engine's expectancy in dealing with environmental temperature and humidity ranges to best suites your local environment.

A tune is definitely worth every penny. My mods are Stillen Gen 3's, F.I. HFC and F.I. 18" res. CBE. Before Tune - 301.3hp 248.27ft.lb. After Tune - 319.02/265.84
