Cool Custom vented hood completed, Pics inside

Hi everyone! Well first off I just came back from Iraq an oh does it feel good to be home!
I've been driving the Z everyday and it always leaves a smile on my face LOL!
My first mod I plan to do is a custom hood vent, that is cutting a vent onto the stock hood. I did it with my S2000 before and it came out very well. It's more function>form really. After hearing all about the cooling issues I wanted to attack it from all angles. I have one of my friends out of LI who does them and let me say he is a master of his craft. I was thinking of going with the GTR style vents over the exhaust manifold. Are there any other styles you think would be beneficial? Any photoshopped ideas would be great! Thanks!

First off, welcome back and thank you for serving our country!

Second. Do it! I have been curious as to what it would look like myself, but too chicken to do it.

Default OEM hood with added vents

The OEM hood is made out of aluminum. Just curious, where are you cutting in the vent(s) (i.e center. on both sides). You will need to raise the front lip in order to extract the engine bay heat out the vent(s).

For us 370Z members, could you DIY this mod with the tools used, time spent, repaint.
Pics would be a plus

I like the idea. I would like to see it done. Im waiting for a Seibon or a varis or some kind of vented hood to get some air flowing through the engine bay. I thought Seibon was going to come out with some stuff? Anyone got any word on that?

He's talking about these I believe. Very clean look if done properly. Not many ppl have the guts to do it though.

Thanks for the welcome! I plan to do a dual vent directly over the exhuast manifold, right where there is dip on the hood so we can get some negative pressure over the vents. As far as repaint goes that's not an issue since the technique he uses doesn't chip it the paint.

Well I plan to use GTR style vents on the center of hood right above the exhaust manifold. As far as repaint goes it won't be neccesary due to the technique being used.

Welcome back and thank you for your services to our country .

I am heavily involved on S2Ki and I am very familiar with the work of your LI friend. I highly recommend it and I look forward to pictures

Are you going to do the simple cut-out of the same NACA duct shape or do you plan on actually adding depth in order to channel the air?

I wish you luck and thanks for sharing.

DIY will definitely need to be done on this. I'd love to see the results and find out how difficult this is.

That's great that you know about S-factor! What a small world!
We plan to cut along the contours of the hood. We will try to add depth but then we would also have to manipulate the mesh which might be difficult. We are still in the planning stage since we only get one shot at this.

Sorry for the delay guys but I had a busy weekend last weekend. The vented hood is done and let me say I'm happy with the results. Now how do I upload pics?

Tell me what you guys think good or bad. BTW it might be a placebo effect but on the drive home I did seem to have lower temps than usual. I'll have to collect more data to substantiate my claim.
