Default Thinking of returning to 370Z

I joined the forum in 2009 upon purchasing a new 09 370Z,coupe mag blk/ frost, manual, tour, sport, nav, the works. One year later got impulsive, and due to an all around great deal traded in the Z for a 2010 corvette grand sport convertible. A year later I sold the vette, was a little disappointed & missed the Z. From here you promote yourself to a P-car, as in new carrera s (991). The only problem is I already have a high mortgage payment, no need for another, what a dilema. So here I am contemplating ordering the 911 which I will be biting off a little more than I can chew (money-wise). So today I'm driving past a Nissan dealer and see parked in front a brand new 2012 Identical to my 2009 except with persimmon Interior. Which is what I sought in 09 but could not find. So I'm thinking I could buy this car outright and spare myself a big car loan. Mind you, I know the Z is not a porsche but I think I could be content with the car & no huge monthly payment (stress-free). Sticker on the Z is a little over 42k. Can someone tell me if there is an oil cooler on a 2012 or what other changes were made since 2009 and also since the 2013's will be out soon, what is a good price on this car. thanks.

I dont know all the details of model year changes, but the 2012 does have an oil-cooler.

I had a similar dilemna w/the caymanS. In the end cheap car payments and keeping money in the bank(0% fin)just made more sense for me. Then again Ive never been a big fan of credit or leveraging yourself(esp. for a depreciating asset). That and I like the way the z drives. Drove a 911S and was unimpressed especially for the money. CaymanS may be worth looking into if you want a P-car that is a little cheaper.

With the way you waste $ switching cars every year I'm not sure how you can afford a house. None of my business but I doubt you'll be happy with a Z this time around. Just buy used.

Anyway...

Can someone tell me if there is an oil cooler on a 2012: Yes

What other changes were made since 2009: Several, mostly minor including a cabin air filter and heated mirrors

What is a good price on this car: Research! New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews and Pricing - Edmunds.com, Hassle-Free Car Buying Experience from Local Dealers - TrueCar, etc

There is a search function here I suggest you give it a try.

Glad to see you are considering coming back!

I am pretty sure 2012 models have added a oil cooler. Its big enough for spirited driving in summer heat, but probably a little on the small side for serious tracking from what I heard on here.
2012 models refines the little issues found on the 09's such as the stuck hatch release, steering wheel lock...etc. could be more than this though.

Price wise 42k for a fully loaded new Z. I think its not too bad, but should drop a bit when the 2013 model comes out. Still.. it depends on if people like the new look of the 2013 model or not. lol

Hope that helped

You never pay sticker. Try to get below invoice. I paid $1400 below invoice for mine.

You are going to be disappointed, time to drive a used Honda Civic for 5 years cuz you're still fresh off from cars at least 1 class above the Z.

I'd just buy the Z outright, as you mentioned. Better to have no payments to think about.

Just curious what had made you want to switch up to a Vette, and how you ended up changing your mind exactly. I've had my 370Z for about a year now, and the main issues I have with it I've really addressed by it not being my primary vehicle anymore. Did you feel cramped in the Z?

Maybe wait for the new cayman? The new boxter is quite amazing. and man on man the 991s I got to extensively test drive was a dream. I say go Porsche (maybe not the 991) but you may want to switch quickly if you get the Z again.

You sound like an extremely impulsive buyer. You been through 3 cars in 4 years. If you have a high mortgage? Think first... Should I spend $44k otd on yet another car. At 4 cars in 3 years I'm sure you lost $15k+payments. At least... sounds to me like you should get a used car for $25k and you will level out some of what you lost. But that's just an opinion.

As far as what you should do if I didn't know how financially wreckless you are...
I would say its easier to just get a Z than those other cars. German cars come with higher maintenece bills, higher insurance and higher price tag.

The 2012 have oil coolers rated for aggressive street. Track is another issue. 2010-12 models have been improving minor details.
2010 brought heated mirrors, air filter, ecu whine tsb, trunk issue tonneau cover brackets standard, better-brighter NAV screen, Nismo R tune pad optionand steering lock issue.
2011 brought upgraded springs and dampers for less bumpy ride, a little more sound deadening to reduce nvh. Minor engine tweaking to reduce harshness, Homelink/backup camera OEM option on base & non nav touring models,Nismo S tune pad option and improved paint quality.
2012 brought the oil cooler and base no price increase from 2011 except on sport pkg and nav.

2013 brings a new front fascia, completely new shock upgrade further increasing handling and ride compliance, new base and sport wheels. Further tweaking for nvh reduction Nismo will get touring pkg stereo and add 2 speakers to system for richer sound quality, red reflector instead of blackout foglight plate and new pricing.

This paragraph is a guess...
Though it hasn't been written by anyone, I imagine there will be some new nav upgrades and possibly some type of handling technology. Just because many of the new nissans in the line-up are getting drastic tech upgrades. I don't think the Z will get drastic tech upgrades, but maybe just a taste to get an idea of what's in store for next gen???

^^Nice write up Unknown! Didn't know about those little unannounced upgrades through the model years as far as ride quality. Great info!
