Looking to vinyl my roof?
Whats your opinions on brands and types of vinyl. I was quoted $300 for a install of 3M (7) year Scotchcal.
Should i be worried when i take the vinyl off? And i got a PW Z, should i get HEXIS CF or 3M DiNoc CF? But i seem drawn to the black gloss.... |
My biggest worry would be covering the roof may make the paint fade unevenly. So when you remove the vinyl, the paint may look faded compared to the rest of the car due to uneven sun exposure and not being able to keep up with maintenence of your paint/ckear on the roof?
I'm not sure that would happen? But that would be my main concern. |

I had some lesser brand on my accord roof for about a year and a half and it came off in one sheet leaving a tiny bit of sticky residue behind but nothing to worry about... As for fading i highly doubt that would be an issue especially for someone who says their car is in the garage 85% of the time... I replaced mine with the matte black 3m di-noc stuff and its pretty nice and holding up much better than the old stuff ... I also recently put some vinyl on the gfs 370 ... She also wanted a glossy look so we just got some stuff from sticker-city.com ... Its been like 2 months and its holding up pretty well.. Still a shame 3m didnt have gloss :(. Have u seen the carbon fiber stuff 3m has? Looks real as ****

300 sounds really high. I was quoted 60 for material and install from a guy who wraps cars and knows what he's doing. I bought bluebat material pre cut for 80 and 3 shops quoted me 75 to install because they didn't know how the pre cut would work. Good luck.

Well that seems high, but I guess all shops are different. Maybe they do a really good job

I got mine done at a local Tint Shop for less that $100, he did my tint on the Z and the roof came out good even that it has diffferent countours.
I'm not worry about the car roof fading because my car is not my DD and is garage. Quote:

I actually tinted the windows including the rear and combined with the black glossy roof it looks sick. It looks like one piece of glass. I don't know what company wrap was used but I insisted on them putting on the black gloss and then the clear 3m over it because if the black gloss is scratched the scratch is white unless it is deep and goes through the sticker to the car paint. The black roof is just too tempting for someone to key. The clear 3m is much more key resistant than the black gloss as well. The clear 3m also makes the black gloss even glossier, like a good coat of wax:happydance:

i would just buy the glossy vinyl and install it myself. probably no more than $60 total.
and yah, treat the vinyl as part of your paint... so seal it wax it, etc as you do the rest of your car. should last a while if it's 3M and made for outdoor use. |
