Lsd

I was hoping to get some input from all you guys with after market LSDs installed. DO you feel a big difference? If so, what kind of diff do sit make/are you feeling? Also, will you feel it much in regular DD mode or only at the track?

OS giken here.. once I get my car back I will let you know. SPOHN said its a great improvement

kenchan 05-03-2012 09:37 AM

im not sure if a dd would feel much difference. the biggest difference is when turning sharp (or pretty sharp) and hitting the throttle hard. open diff can be an embarrassment with more noise and not much go vs some go with viscous type...but if you setup your suspension, alignment, and tires correctly that might net you more vs just getting LSD.

Red__Zed 05-03-2012 09:42 AM

You will notice a pretty big difference if you drive hard. If you aren't noticing situations where it will make a difference in getting power to both wheels, you probably don't need one.

Os giken is a great option, quaife is as well. Quaife is a bit less intrusive for DD, but the OSG is not bad either.

With my base I would hit that point everyday!! ^ lol

You have the sport package viscous LSD already so I'm not sure that you would see a huge difference on the street unless you frequently push the car hard. The main failing of the viscous unit is that it gets worse the longer and harder you drive due to the fluid heating up.

The gear type LSD's are going to be the most street friendly, quiet and well mannered (Quaife etc). But if you're not having a specific problem then there probably isn't much point upgrading.

:iagree:

Yep, you will notice it most when breaking the tires loose & the back end steps out on you. Also really tight clutch units can be noisy & a bit grabby around slow corners (like your Z is going to slow corner ) but as mentioned, unless you are really pushing the car Track, advanced AutoX ect. For the street, the factory LSD is more than adequate.

YMMV

I think I'll wait until I have a few more track days under my belt to decide. Thanks for the input everyone.

Mike 05-03-2012 12:27 PM

I'm getting a quiafe installed next week, but wont be back to the track until June to test it out

brucelidat 05-03-2012 12:31 PM

My friend had it installed and said it made a huge difference on the track and was even noticeable in DD. He is a much more seasoned tracker and better driver than me, though. And he goes to the track often while I only go once in a while. I think the mod bug is just biting me because I've been working so much this week.

I'm going to wait till I start seeing some break down in the fluid, it doesn't last forever and then I'll get on of the recommended LSDs. Right now it seems to be holding up just fine for my driving style.

Do not put LSD in your LSD.

Why? Because then you will be trippin' and slippin' instead of grippin'?
