The thing I learned about Powdercoating Hyper-black...they said they would actually start off with Black and then the more silver you add the lighter it'd become.
So I'm gonna try to do one hint darker than the 40th Anniversary Color (which I recalled someone from a powdercoating shop called it Hyper Black) Hyper Silver is what the stock OEM Rays are called. I'll let you know how it goes. By the way, the note with "darker than display" was a G35 Rays rim I saw at Wheel Technique, I'll try to post it when I get a chance so you guys know how it looks under the sun and I'm going to be one shade darker than it. |
Yea Scruff, get some pics up with whatever you end up doing. I'm curious to see how it all comes together.

I know in my industry colors are often chosen by RAL number. This is I believe a standard in Europe. IF you get a swatch with an RAL number on it and choose that color it should come out the same so no suprises.
Just an idea. Here is a link: http://www.signalcontrol.com/product...olor_Chart.pdf |
I am also looking at doing some darker wheels that are a little bit lighter than black. Basically, if the wheels are solid/matte black they don't really reflect the light and show off the angles well. I want something that is going to look mostly black but also reflect light around and allow you to see the texture and angles of the Rays. Let us know how it turns out and post a bunch of pics!
I called a shop in my area and they charge $90/wheel for this, and they won't take the car, they only want the wheels. Seems expensive and way more of a hassle than I want to deal with. |
when i get it back it should look something like this...
Below is the 40th Anniversary Edition for Europe - Black Edition http://www.the370z.com/members/scruf...ck-edition.png http://www.the370z.com/members/scruf...ck-edition.png http://www.the370z.com/members/scruf...ck-edition.png http://www.the370z.com/members/scruf...ck-edition.png |
That last photo looks like what a black 2013 will look like.

looks awesome, scruffy! Great color. What was the actual paint color name/code?
|
Pretty close to the color of the caliper. Looks good.
|
nice pics, too, now I can photoshop them onto my GM and see how they would look, haha

I asked for the code of the Hypersilver or black paint they use, they said they don't have a code for that - which I find B.S. Anyway, I guess i'll be going back to them to do it. For something like this they would have to match it anyways as it's really varies each time. Thanks, I really like it alot because it has more shine to it than the 40th. Very much like the LFA wheels pic i posted earlier http://gallery.carreview.com/data/ca...xus_LFA_33.JPG http://i1243.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_2107.jpg |
Wow scruffy those look awesome! I love the fact you can see the metallic shining as the light hits it. It's perfect, not to black, not to grey, perfect balance. Do you happen to know what paint code they used on there? I would love to do my wheels exactly like yours.
