Want the Sport Package but dont like spoiler? PICS
For those of you like me; I had to have the Sport Pack but was not a fan of the spoiler. It's not that the spoiler is ugly but I prefer the clean lines of the Z without it...and the spoiler hides the nice character line that wraps around the hatch. Not to worry...there is a free & easy solution with no painting or drilling! Find someone with a non-sport pack car in the same color, swap hatches, and viola!
Didnt know if this was considered a 'mod' to be placed in interior/exterior section or not...move if neccessary admin BEFORE http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00182.jpg AFTER #1 http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00187.jpg AFTER #2 http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n...z/DSC00188.jpg |
nice, worked out well....it's just a matter of finding someone willing to trade
|
Looks good. I'm a spoiler fan though, I like the look A LOT better with the spoiler, but to each their own. Looks good either way =)
|
That's pretty cool and a good way to save someone 600+ bucks that wanted the spoiler but not the sports package.
Isn't there a black VIN tag on the underside of the hatch? Did you swap that as well? |

maybe he likes his Z to look naked on the rear...thats what the spoiler looks like compared with the ex-spoiler Z..........lol
|
I also like the 370 without the spoiler!
|
I think the Z looks alot better with the spoier but to each their own.
|
So, you swapped the rims and rear license plate holder? ;)
haha...J/K..Looks good. Kinda has a JDM touch to it (as many Fairlady Z in Japan comes with the sport wheel but no spoiler) |
^^^good call AK - I noticed several pics of JDM 370s have the sport pack with no spoiler, I assume the spoiler is a stand alone option in the JDM?
On a side note --- the hatch is VERY light! Although I didnt have the time to actually put it on a scale I would estimate it weighed about 35-40lbs ish. MUCH lighter than the steel 350z hatch |
The hatch and doors are made of aluminum to reduce weight ;). Still there is a 2lb metal weight in the 370Z hatch so that you can close it easily.
|
I also agree that the rear end looks much cleaner without the spoiler. You're pretty lucky to be able to find someone to swap with. But I gotta ask what some others have asked, VIN sticker swapped?
|
I love the look of the spoiler, very tasteful and not too boy racer.
|
Too bad you don't know own a Mag Black, I would've bought it off you asap.

One of the nicest things about taking the spoiler off is, you're able to shop for a better one.
I'm looking for a little "lip" above the tail light-- maybe 20-30mm high. Just enough to show I was thinking of it. :) |
Ask and ye shall receive. J-Next - Trunk Spoiler

Leave it spoilerless til something better comes in the future.
So. How heavy was it? Easy job for 2 ppl? |
Looks like it worked out well for the both of you.
|
I can vouch it worked out nice, as it was my car that he made the swap with. I was very thankfull, that is why I drove 120 miles to do it.
I am greatfull, it was rather easy. Hey jmlenz if you want to swap rims and seats hit me up. lol Ill drive back down. As for me, I understand the love of the clean look. My g35 looked better to me spoiler less. I do like the 370 spoiler though, it just makes the car look like a beast. I love her phat *** and flaired out sides. By the way she handles nice at 130mph as ZI found out racing a ISF on my way home later that day.:tiphat: |
I like my Z naked.
|
^what girls and cars have in common:rofl2:

It does remind me of a Solara a bit now that you mention it and that's not a good thing.

I think the Solara comment is exactly right. Maybe it's the angle they chose for the pictures, but this lip doesn't so look good here. But if you follow the link, this website sells some really monster wings too, the kind that actually work at speeds under 200km/h. Or you could crank the camber the other way and get some amazing hang time. :) |
I would trade my black touring for a red whatever... lol

anyways, glad u got ur trade jmlenz |
some were asking about a nice lip spoiler...I found this one that I may consider down the road...

i guess its ok for the z's to park in handicap spots :ugh2:
|
I personally like the spoiler. I think it looks good and flows along with the lines of the car. What I do find ugly is the rear spoiler/bumper kit on the Nismo Z, and that goes for both the 350 and 370 nismo
|
Sorry to revive a dead thread but I just purchased a base Mag Black 370Z. Wondering if anymore wants to trade hatches to go spoilerless. I'm in San Rafael, CA in NorCal.
|
I'm sure the guy who got the spoiler was happy. I prefer the spoiler and in fact have the sports/touring in Brilliant Silver on my 2011. I only wish I had the NISMO spoiler!
|
yah, the stock spoiler looks great, especially with the mine's lip. :yum:
|
Glad you found someone to swap with; but IMHO the Z looks like it has down's syndrome without the spoiler. To each his own!
