Default Yellow vs Blue

So after waiting several months I've decided to just say screw it and buy one. I was ready about a month ago but due to the oil temp issues was holding off. Based off my readings over the last month I don't think it's enough to keep me from buying at this point. Besides, there really isn't anything else out there that I like in the same price range.

So since last year I was dead set on getting yellow. My 280z is yellow and I love it. The only problem was that the 370z yellow isn't as bright as I was hoping, it's more of subdued yellow. I still like it and have seen it in person. However I saw the blue not that long ago and I'm really digging it too. My WRX used to be blue and enjoyed it. Part of me wanted to get yellow to match my 280z but now I just don't know.

Anyway, wanted to see if anyone had any reasons to go with one color over the other. I know yellow is 500 extra but I don't mind. I waiting to move to a house with a 4 car garage but until then the new Z will be parked. My 2 current Z's and my girls Vette get the other 3 spots. I'm thinking the yellow will stay looking cleaner longer but I don't know. Again just looking for comments to sway me in either direction. No other colors need apply. Only considering yellow or blue. Thanks

Do you get a lot of rain in Singapore? Is that where the road grime comes from?

Well, it's a tough choice. I went with blue, but I think the yellow is gorgeous as well. You could go with yellow on the basis of keeping things consistent with your 280, but you could just as easily go with blue on the basis of wanting to have variety. Now, you're in Nevada. I'm guessing pollen isn't an issue in the Spring like it is in my area. Every Spring, our cars just get coated with this layer of yellow pollen, and that's when I think how nice it'd be to have a yellow car. But if you don't get a lot of pollen, then this doesn't come into play. I don't know, man. Both colors are great; I don't think you can go wrong with either one. Personally, I went with blue because blue's my favorite color. But I also chose blue because that color has always had a calming effect on me, whereas yellow is more of a bold, in your face kind of color (at least this shade of yellow). Nothing wrong with that, except I don't always want the volume dialed up at 10, know what I mean? The blue is bright and eye catching, yet it's also calming, especially when it gets darker out, as the hue deepens as light diminishes. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the only thing I didn't like so much about the yellow is that it's 'always-on'. And sometimes, I'm just not in that kind of mood. The blue is more mood-versatile, if that makes any sense.

Damn, Semtex... don't get all deep on us or anything!

I think that has to be the best analysis of car color choice that I've ever seen.

So, what're your thoughts on the Platinum Graphite?

I obviously like the yellow, but blue was a close second choice, but only with a perssimon interior. I like the yellow because it is a bit rare. It will be even rarer in the future as it is only a one year run. As far as keeping it clean, I can say it is better than black or white, but it's not the easiest. I'm pretty meticulous about keeping the exterior of all my cars clean, so I would probably be washing the blue as much as i do the yellow. I do think it would be cool to have a yellow 280 and 350. That would be a cool set.

Oh I didn't know that yellow was just a one year run. I think that might change the equation somewhat.

Was the yellow 350Z only for the first model year too?

If I get a Z it would be yellow and blue would be second choice.

Yellow will be very unique if it's only available for the first year.

I have to agree with Semtex here. Although I like the yellow for the 370, it's just not me. I went with the blue and I've been very happy with it. Relatively easy to maintain (but then again I hand wash/wax it regularly).

Ironically, my 350 was Daytona Blue, which I thought was the most incredible shade of blue. I got a ton of comments on the color - more than the car itself, even. When I saw the new blue, I have to say that I was disappointed, particularly when I saw the cars parked next to each other. At first, I thought it was a sign that I should pick a new color (new car, new color). I was leaning towards the Platinum Graphite, but in the end I ended up with the blue. However, I admit that it has really grown on me and I've gotten a ton of comments on this color as well.

I also agree with Semtex that it is a wonderfully complex color. A light sea/baby blue in direct sunlight (which I prefer a bit less, to be honest). But in the fading light, it turns to a beautifully rich shade of deep blue (more akin to the original 350).

All in all, I am very happy that I got the blue. In fact, I just finished another wash/wax (Maguire's NXT) this afternoon. I used to use pure carnuba but the NXT synthetic is dead easy to apply and beads like crazy. It also seems to take multiple coats much better.

Either way, you're getting a great car! You're going to love it! I'll be heading over to Willow Springs for a track day on the 17th and I can't wait. It's the first day on the track for the new Z. Just hoping that I can manage to survive the day without becoming acquainted with Mr. Limp Mode...
