Just wondering if anyone else had this problem:
I did not use my car at all on Saturday and Sunday. It was raining on Friday and I came home with the windows all the way rolled up, as I usually do anyways even if it is not raining. I just got up this morning to find both my windows were rolled down by the EXACT same amount! I then remembered that last week my friend noticed that my driver's side window was rolled down a crack while my car was parked outside. I didn't think much of it...just thought I forgot to roll it up all the way, but now I'm thinking it is some electrical glitch. Luckily, my car is parked in a garage! Otherwise, I would be pissed. |

did you by chance disconnect the battery recently...if so
start the car, press down 20 seconds and then up for 20 seconds give it a try even if you didnt disconnect, it's a window reset |

if you had your keyfob in your pocket and the unlock button was by chance mashed down for a while your windows would have rolled down on their own. I did this one day after coming home, parking, then working in the yard. I heard the car beep and unlock, then the windows rolled down shortly after. I then realized that while I was pulling weeds the junk in my pocket had inadvertently mashed the unlock button.
fortunately i was aware that holding the unlock button for a time would make this happen, otherwise i would have freaked. |

Many Nissan vehicles, the Z included, will roll the passenger windows down if the "unlock" tab on the fob it depressed for a few seconds (probably 5-10) and if you keep holding the tab, the windows will roll completely down (my M45 does the same with all four side windows).
That's likely what happened here. Also, some of you may not realize that you can put all windows up by using the key in the door lock; turn the key to the lock position for a few seconds and hold it there and the windows will roll up...convenient if you want to roll up your windows without messing with the ignition/starting the vehicle. ![]()

Perhaps the key fob should have a "lock" setting so that any inadvertent button pushes would be ignored (like on a cellphone). That way you can put it in your pocket and not have to worry about auto-magically rolling down your windows.

![]() I've always carried my key fob in my pocket and have for as long as there has been key fobs...there have been times when I've hit a key (like the panic button) without intending to but I've never done so while the fob was in my pocket! Personally, I like the feature a great deal - when I'm still quite a distance away, I can roll down my windows and start airing out the cabin and thereby reduce some of the heat build-up that has happened while I've been in the office, etc...not an unimportant feature when "cool" summer days here means the temp has stayed below 96 degrees! Really, this feature (or something similar) has been available on many higher-end cars (BMW, Audie, etc) for many years...I don't see why it would be a cause for consternation for anyone and I suspect that if it were deleted, there would be no end of complaints about Nissan being cheep and not having a feature everyone else has. ![]()

That was about the only idea I could think of for having this feature: airing out the car a bit before one got to it. I wonder how many people actually USE this feature as you do (compared to how many owners aren't even aware it exists!)?
It's definitely new to me. No Audis or BMWs in my garage in the last couple years. ![]()

Just a question. Were the doors also unlocked? I believe (haven't checked yet since it's freaking freezing outside) that when you hold the unlock button down, the doors unlock, and if you continue to hold the button the windows then roll down. So if the doors were still locked, but the windows down could it be a problem? I only ask as I was previously thinking of getting a Mini Cooper before finding the Z a much better fit for me, and one problem that keeps cropping up in the Mini forums were that the windows would roll down by themselves. Turns out that manytimes a switch in the door would get wet and roll the windows down, usually in a rain storm. A link to the Mini forum for refrence to thier window problems: MINI COOPER :: North American Motoring - Windows opened during the night!?!?! |

I didn't know the fob could do all that. I was thinking you got one of the limited edition haunted Zs.
