Sport Package Q?

im in the market for a 370, and just wanted to see what you experienced Z guys thought of the Sport Pkg. I guess im just trying to convince myself the $3500 difference is actually a wise investment. i would more than likely change out the Rays, and wasn't sure how much of that $3500 was being eaten up by those in the upgrade pkg....

thanks alot.:tiphat:

delusional 04-16-2012 06:45 PM

most guys would get base + sport. the sport package i would say is the most essential package for the z. it's not just the sports rims that come with the package. there's the akebono brakes, the rear lsd, syncro rev matching, rear sports spoiler and front chin spoiler. but if you're planning to change most of those out anyways, then just get the base

snizzle 04-16-2012 06:52 PM

well not change out most of these, just the rims... and thats a possibly. i do like the spoiliers, front and rear, but saw those can be ordered for a total of $800

+1.....

FYI time is ticking to get the sweet interest rates.

kenchan 04-16-2012 06:59 PM

the sports package is well worth it imho. even if you sold the wheels/tires you can net 1800-2000 if brand new. :)

brucelidat 04-16-2012 07:07 PM

get the sport package unless you're going to change your brakes and get a rear diff later on.

symple84 04-16-2012 07:09 PM

synchro rev alone makes it worth the sports package

snizzle 04-16-2012 07:11 PM

thanks. i thought was probably the best bet to go for my budget, and just wanted to make sure if i spent that extra few thousand, that it would be money well spent.... i guess i kinda knew deep down it was the best route, but i just needed a little nudge from others who have it...

brucelidat 04-16-2012 07:15 PM

i wasn't aware SRM was only on the sport package

snizzle 04-16-2012 07:27 PM

svm?

brucelidat 04-16-2012 07:31 PM

synchro rev match

snizzle 04-16-2012 07:45 PM

ahh gotcha

USMCASA 04-16-2012 07:55 PM

listen to me when i say the syncro rev is worth the 3500 in itself. i've got 88k+ miles on the car with the original clutch, no slipping and pulls just as hard as when i got it with 59 miles on the odo. well worth it by far

JARblue 04-16-2012 08:58 PM

I wanted sport package purely for the SRM and maybe the rims... neither my wife nor I ever use it anymore. I think of it more as a novelty after owning the car for a year - more fun to show off than actually use. I think I'm happier with the brake upgrades and rear lsd. But absolutely get the sport package.

Juruki 04-16-2012 09:19 PM

Get the sport package or you will regret it later

frost 04-16-2012 09:23 PM

What they all said.

+1 for succinctness

Spikuh 04-16-2012 09:50 PM

I know what SRM is, but what is SVM? :rofl2:

JARblue 04-16-2012 10:10 PM

I was just going with the flow. I've always used SRM previously but just figured Synchro reV Match was an acceptable alternate acronym.

brucelidat 04-16-2012 10:19 PM

oops, fixed, haha

Titan1080 04-16-2012 11:58 PM

Here's a short anectdote: I personally loved the SRM when I first got it. Coming from an old TR7 with bad synchros, I had by necessity learned how to heel-toe rev match and when I test drove the Z, I was blown away. I drove with it on for a long time since the system does it perfectly everytime, until I decided to use it to teach me how the engine and throttle react to my foot and learn what revs I needed at a given speed for a whatever gear I was downshifting to. It really helped me get the feel for the Z until I began driving with it off last summer. Nowadays, I only switch it on when I'm in traffic since the smoother shifts are easier on the clutch and presumably help extend its life.

DYNAZOR 04-17-2012 01:40 AM

Anyone who's driven a heavy truck for a living doesn't need SRM and probably will never use it. And like some others have said, after a while you probably will prefer matching engine speed/gear/road speed yourself.

I really didn't want to spend the extra dough on the sport package, but the car I wanted, Gun Metallic, had it, so I bought it. Having said that, I can still say I don't care about the differential or the spoilers, or even the wider tires, but the Rays are nice, and the brakes are indispensible. Could not possibly see myself having this car without those brakes now.

Pat C. 04-17-2012 01:58 AM

Didn't know either

When i found my used one this past fall, had no idea about the Sport package. Now that I've learned some things about the 370 series, I wouldn't buy one without it....The syncro matching transmission will make you giggle each time you use it...Why would you take off one of the prettiest rims made for something else? The Sport package makes the cars look much more refined without being a "kid" car...
Pat

Most people who don't get the sport pkg wind up trying to buy it in parts later. It will be hard to get a comparable sport setup on your own for less than $7,000. And at 7k half your parts you will buy used. New you will be closer to 10k.

bvl 04-17-2012 06:18 AM

I am on the must have sport option team as well.

My wife, who drives a manual just fine, goes bat **** over SRM. It was the gotta have it option for her. And it does make me giggle too so I rarely disable it.

The 19" Rays to me look fantastic but that is quite subjective. Tire size/price is not so yummy. I like the 18" stock wheels as well and would not have minded smaller wheels in a base package but SRM was required.

The better optioned Z car to me has 18" wheels with big brakes (can be done after), SRM option, and Nav. The only thing I like in the touring package is heated seats.

This of course...does not exist so I got me a loaded Z. <shrug> :D

I'd go sport, to me the 19's are just so sexy.

TerribleONE 04-17-2012 10:52 AM

Non sport here... however I was looking to go aftermarket before I bought the car.. If you plan to just leave it alone definitely get the sport

Dembflyr 04-17-2012 11:02 AM

$3500 is a deal for all that you get.

Even if you're gonna change the wheels or never use the SRM its still well worth the money.

It would be a good idea to go for the base is if you want your own wheels, LSD, BBK, and wing or spoiler. But it will cost you a LOT more than $3500.

MacLean 04-17-2012 02:12 PM

Just go for it...... You get teh 19's & better brakes for the time being until you decide to up-grade the rims, or brakes.

NYBladeZ 04-17-2012 04:14 PM

sports package or bust, I concur with members who say the synchro rev alone is worth it. The wheels looks sweet and are pretty damn light.

LakeShow 04-17-2012 04:15 PM

Get it! Best money you will have spent on your Z!

RUFFSTUFF 04-17-2012 04:42 PM

<---- doesn't have the Sport Package. :(

elmz 04-18-2012 10:00 AM

If you can afford it, get the sport package it is well worth it. You will end up spending more for parts and labor if you were to do the same upgrades later.

snizzle 04-18-2012 10:27 AM

i appreciate all the feedback and input. thx so much. i think thats the route i want to go..thx again guys.

:iagree:, trust me, get the sport package. I didn't need the touring package that's what my daily driver is for (already have a Garmin with lifetime updates) . Plus, to be honest, i always preferred cloth seats in sports cars.:driving:

4r3s 04-18-2012 12:23 PM

if hes going AT the SRM feature is meaningless. I didn't get the sports package and the only thing I miss is the LSD and the BBK. I upgraded to wheels I wanted to be unique and also upgraded to the sports BBK afterwards. At one point I had really wished I got the sports package bc $3,000 spread out over the course of your loan is like a $20 difference in monthly payments, drop in the bucket really. But I'm glad I didn't now because I feel like my car is unique compared to everyone else's here.

dirtrat 04-18-2012 10:49 PM

I don't see him saying anywhere he is getting a manual transmission.

After I learned what a LSD actually does it became less special to me.

Not sure how driving a heavy truck compares to a high reving six cylinder... Seriously even if you are a master heel toer your still not going to rev match as well as the SRM.
