Question Anyone have a Fuel Gauge Issue?

Guys I've only had my Z for 2 months and i filled up my gas tank a week ago and noticed the last light on my fuel gauge didn't light up. I thought maybe it didn't fill up all the way. But, I filled up again today and noticed it did it again. This happen to any of you guys? Know of any issues with the bulbs on the fuel gauge burning out?

The bulbs are LEDs so it would be unusual for them to burn out. I've noticed that my Z is a bit tempermental with how far the gas nozzle is inserted into the car when filling up. This is mainly an issue at the START of filling though, not the end. If you put the nozzle all the way in (hubbed), it will immediately 'pop' back to off when you start filling. You have to pull it back out a hair before it will fill continuously.

I suppose I'd first try to top things off...once the gas pump stops, withdraw the handle a bit and try putting in another half-gallon or so. If that doesn't light up the final light (far right) then you should just take it to the dealer.

The fuel/temp segments are NOT LED. They're part of the LCD segment, so it can't "burn out."

The only issue I've seen is trying to read it in bright sunlight. That thing washes out pretty easily.

At 1400 mile I had a check engin light come on while out of town. Stopped in the area dealer they looked up the code and had no info on it. They then called Nissans tech support. They said It could be a fuel sending/pump problem. Told me it would take 6-7 hr to check out. Since I was out of town, I told them no way. They cleared the code and it hasn't come back on. It's been four days now, so who knows. Not sure if this helps or not.

As stupid as it might sound, make sure you filler cap is on well/correctly...I had a Z a couple of years ago that seemed very sensitive to this...apparently, modern fuel tanks are designed to maintain a certain amount of pressure and if the fuel filler cap isn't one properly, the pressure can't be maintained and you'll get the ubiquitous "check engine" light.

As to the fuel gauge question, mine lights up all the way if I fill up the tank all the way - of course, it might work well for me because I'm pretty anal about getting every possible drop in that the tank will hold - you never know when that last half-ounce will be the difference between rolling into the next filling station under power or having to push the car to the pump!

I have this too, where the last light won't come on. So far I have filled up 4 times and it has never come on.

Today I even filled up all the up to the neck filler (without causing an overspill on the paint too). It's not a big issue, especially since I'm use to it with the Harley. I never trust gas gauges. Pushing a 700 lb bike a 1/4 mile was not fun.

Maybe it's possible that there is some sort of limit switch that is not adjusted correctly. I would get the dealer to check it out.

This was very true of my 2004 Tiburon I had. If I didn't tighten the cap enough (until I heard one or two "clicks") the Check Engine light would come on. Got lucky once and it went off after a refill but usually I had to go to the dealer to get it turned off.

I believe I even failed emissions in VA. once and it was simply because I hadn't tightened the gas cap enough. Sensitive, indeed!

This is not a good idea, as gas expands. Your owners manual will tell you not to do this as well.

Yeah that was the only time I risked filling up to the neck. I would hate to spill fuel all over the paint.

That happened once with the Harley. Freaking gas pump didn't auto-shut off and fuel dumped all over my hot engine.

No fires, just one pissed off rider, a hard lesson learned, and a couple of hours of clean up.
