I've had this happen last three fill ups! Tonight I decided to add another dollar and a half after the pump click off to see if it was a sensitivity thing! Well it worked!! The last light did light up!

I only run Chevron w/ Techron in my cars anyway, but I did try the Techron concentrate bottle two fill ups ago (what Modshack mentioned). Not sure if it did much.

Same thing used to happen on my Titan. The gauge would slowly rise from 3/4 to full the first 30 miles or so after a fill-up. I had the fuel sender replaced under warranty at the dealer but then it was even worse - after the "fix" it would go all the way to full as normal but then the tank would be empty at 1/4 on the needle with no low-fuel light. I ran out of gas on the first tank after the dealer "fix". Thanks Dealer!

So when the last light on the Z's gauge started doing the same thing on the Z (not lighting up after fill-ups) I listened to some other members here and went to Chevron for the next couple fill-ups (for the Techron). Hasn't happened since. Thanks guys!

Good info DIGItonium. Your statement makes sense because sometimes the last dot did lit up after driving for a little while. Not sure what's the cause of this.

The reason for this is that the last contact on the sender spends more time uncovered by fuel then any of the others. This gives corrosion a chance to build up. When you fill up, the connection for the last light is not made because of this. As you drive a bit the sloshing fuel moves the contact arm up and down over that last connection. The corrosion is scrubbed off anf the light illuminates. Again, a bottle of Techron concentrate at your next fill-up will go a long way toward keeping these contacts clean..

Same exact thing with me too guys... full fillup and the last light is not on. I'll drive around for a few miles and or shut the car off for a bit, turn back on and the last light is now illuminated. Not a big deal, but annoying.

It says it right in the manual, plain as day, to not "top off" the tank.

My truck, with it's bad fuel filler hose (cracked rubber hose going from filling port to the top of the tank) won't let me "top it off" because it'll just drain it out.

As with your harley, as with my bike...that last little bit of gas you can squease in there amounts to about an 8th of a cup. That might get you a couple miles in the right conditions.

My bike doesn't have a fuel guage. It has a reserve. It also has a resettable trip meter. I use the trip meter, when it tips 150 miles, I hit the gas station and fill it back up. I do get as much as I can in it, but, at the same time, I don't try to get every drop I can in it. Once it starts bubbling (if you saw me do it, you'd understand, I stop - it's probably about 1-1.5" from the top. Could I squeeze in more, sure can. Might be 10miles more...

But the end result is that I don't gas on me, and I don't want gas on my engine, and I don't want gas ON my bike and all it's parts that would have to be cleaned else risk damage...(leather)

So...with the Z...I don't want gas on the paint. I don't want to risk damaging parts to the Z that would be more expensive to replace than getting a tow, or calling a buddy with an out-of-gas story...

Great post, and any motorcyclist would agree.

x2 on Modshack's recommendation of Techron additive. I've used that on clogged injectors, it's a miracle drug.

so what's the solution to this problem? i already consumed some gas down to the third dot, and then refilled the tank again, and the last led still is off. does that techron stuff solve the issue? it's not available where i live. would any other generic fuel cleaner work, or do i have to go and try to get that techron stuff from ebay or something?

I have this issue, it is caused by the sensors that hook into my test pipe. I noticed it about a week after I installed them. The SES came on then I filled my tank the very last LED would not light up no matter how much I put in the tank. I used the non-fouler method to fix the SES and filled the tank again and surpise surpise the last LED came on. So my guess would be check your sensors with the Cats. Make sure they are not loose.

not very clear what you mean. do you mean the oxygen sensors? well, i don't have a check engine light, never had one, nor did i do any mods or upgrades to the car. also, why and how would the fuel level gauge be affected by something like an oxygen sensor?
