Anyone have a Fuel Gauge Issue?

Loose "male"/"female" connectors? Try contact cleaner, 'nstead of fuel system cleaner or brake cleaning fluid. It's a small spray can ('bout $4.00 in Radio Shack). Good luck! (Techron is sold

(Techron is sold at Pep Boys, Auto Zone and Advance Auto Parts; but that's for the fuel injectors/combustion chamber/valves, though).

modshack's suggestion worked for me. i never had this problem up until my car was in the body shop. it was there for a month with an almost empty tank and it was sitting for most of the time.

when i got it back, i ran out of gas (had to push it, thank god i was in the parking lot of a gas station) and it showed a 1/4 tank (4 dots). when i filled up till it clicked, 2 dots were not lit. i had to use two treatments of 20gal techron fuel sys cleaner to get the lights to work properly. i was about to take it to the dealer thinking the fuel sender unit was faulty but it seems accurate now.

saw this in a thread today. Thought I would share

Dodgy Fuel Guages

That's why the last RH fuel LED wasn't working.

So those of you with the same problem you will be waiting a couple of weeks for new senders to arrive from Japan.

so its not sulphur deposits. its the sender itself that needs replacement. does that mean the techron stuff doesn't fix it? anyone had any luck with a fix yet?

today i filled up the tank, and after driving for about 20-30 km the last led finally came on for the first time in months!!!!!!!!! but it stayed on for just 6-7 minutes and then went off again

i topped off the tank and it still stayed off. what could be the cause? if it was sulfur deposits clogging up the contacts, why would the problem fix itself for a few minutes? maybe the sending unit itself is glitchy and needs replacement, like what happened with the guy from australia. any chance nissan will issue a tsb for this since it does seem relatively common?

Yeah guys, this is a known problem. I'm taking my car in soon to get it fixed... My last light won't come on. It seems that our Aussie ones have the most issues... I'm thinking it might have something to do with the fuel??

I think GTRFAN has the worst, I think he's missing 3 lights or so or maybe its MAJESTIK can't remember lol

will report results after i've tried it.

two refils now with no final light, though the dealler did fix my hatch springs =) that was more of a pain than the fuel light...

My final light is back on. Only thing i did differently from before is I filled up with 98 ron fuel not 95 (which i did because i wanted to redline the car for the first time). After 50km with the new tank of fuel the light came on and stayed on until i got to the 75km mark. Maybe the 98 fuel is cleaner? or has more cleaning agents in it?

i'll take this as my car complaining about the 95 ron diet... i have now formally appologised to the zed

If the lights fail again I'll try techron then.

I have had the same problem. no matter how much I try to put in the tank, the gauge is always lit up short of two lights. and then your guessing when your next fill is, i will try the cleaner.

I HATE the left digital gauge. WTF NISSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It sux, it looks corny and takes away from the Z car. To top it off for years we have enough people with enough issues to go analog. Everytime I get in my car. I feel like I have a fkin cyborg staring at me. And why silver??? I know in 2013, the blackened gauge will arrive as one of several weak azz updates but... did nissan really think it looked good in 09,10,11,and 12??? I generally hate digital gauges but have seen some nice ones this past year or two. Especially in the BRZ. The Z just doesn't cut it on the left-eye.
I will say this though. The overall layout is magic. But the left-eye kills from looks to functionality. My gas lights work but that METER operation is horrid. I wish I had an analog needle for the gas tank.

Rant over.

2 fule sending units replaced on the G37 and I am on the 4th on the FX50. Nissan says there is no issue. However everyone that has been replaced has a differnt style pick up than the last. Nissan knows theirs an issue but I think are only looking at it internally.

The 370Z has a least 4 or 5 known issue since 2009 by Nissan and only 1 TSB issued.

1- Hatchback bumps (TSB)
2- Oil Overheating problems
3- Fuel Sending Unit
4- Steering Lock Failure
5- Paint issue with some colors
