I don't think it's bad gasoline because the engine doesn't sound like it's pinging??
I would only hope that if your oil is where it supposed to be? That maybe it's a noisy throwout bearing.
Its kinda hard to diagnose with a short video and not physically being there to get a good feel of were exactly the noise is coming from.

sinceday1 04-16-2012 07:06 AM

are you talking about the noise similar to what a semi truck would make from their stop-go situation??

ohioZboy 04-16-2012 07:29 AM

says video not found when i try to open it...i wonder if it is the same noise i am getting, the best way i can explain it is like a metal ball that you drop and it bounces lower and lower and lower, i haven't had any time to look at it and see what it is or where it is exactly coming from. someone hit me a few months ago i figured it was from that but not entirely sure until i have time to diagnose. weird thing is it doesn't happen all the time for me just here and there and only when i take off and when i am stopping.

USMCASA 04-16-2012 08:10 AM

sounds like you have a diesel powered Z. um... low oil?

MacLean 04-16-2012 09:23 AM

Have you checked to see what you oil level is at? FYI.......... If you are going to fill up & you see a tanker truck there putting gas in the tanks do not get gas. The reason is that all the crap from the bottom of the tanks will float up to the top.

Video is not working for some people because you posted the mobile link which is rtsp and not normal youtube. This should work for people:

loose heat shield? It may also be not loose but just too close to exhaust. The heat shield above the back crossmember will rattle if too close to the vibrating exhaust. It's hard to tell in the video. Does it also make the noise in park or nuetral?

raymondo510 08-31-2012 02:03 AM

try a differnet dealership

It is something, but bad gas is not my first inclination.

Found this thread while searching the forums for this particular issue so please forgive me for bumping such an old topic. I have a 09 Z with a little over 85,000 miles now making the exact same noise in the video maro posted. Sounds like a truck when it takes off. It only happens randomly so it's hard to mimic but I noticed it only happens in gear at low rpms. Has anyone else ever had this issue and figured out what was the cause?

I am in agreeable state with you sir! The cross member must be bent up a bit and needs to be bent down OR the exhaust is pushed to far down and under low load or downshifting is causing the Y pipe to vibrate more then usually hitting the cross member. When I switched to downpipes this same issue happened with me, had to press the cross brace down a bit to give more clearance, otherwise overtime I accelerated or downshifted it rattled bad.

Hope this helps!

Everything seems fine under the car. Nothing bent or anything. I have a stock exhaust too so nothing was ever changed either. Was thinking maybe something with the engine or transmission maybe? Only hear it randomly so it's hard to pinpoint.

Larso1 11-22-2017 04:53 PM

It definitely doesn't sound right to me. Almost sounds like it could be a leak at the exhaust or intake manifold, or maybe in the EGR valve system.
