Here is a quick warning to the guys...depending on who you believe between one out of five or one in THREE..yes one in THREE guys will get prostate cancer. It can and often will kill, but the good news is it is easily detectable with a simple blood test.. and easily curable with robotic surgery...PROVIDED IT IS CAUGHT EARLY BEFORE IT LEAVES THE PROSTATE AND SPREADS INTO THE SURROUNDING BONES AND ORGANS.

Glad he got to drive a car he wanted before his time was up. I would want the same thing.

They test for P.S.A. levels....Every man over 50 should know those levels like Horsepower Numbers..

Below 2.0 is good..

Thanks for the good wishes.. Our stories are for everyone to realize how fragile life is..One minute , everything is normal, and a second later....Everything has changed..if you are even lucky enough to survive..

So, get out there and enjoy life....Oh, and write that Bucket List with the Wife...

See if you can start checking them off..That is what I am doing..

Absolutely and any rapid change is reason for a biopsy ...Its important we spread the word,...especially to the younger one that think "its never going to happen to me" My brother in law died two weeks ago,.,.seemed fine in the morning.... dead of a heart attack in the afternoon.

Sorry for your loss..Yes, it happens that fast...They are here, and then gone.

I am on borrowed Time...Just the way it is..

I am on the Bucket List stage of life..One of the things was to redo my Old Hot Rod...Get one last crazy time in it with all the modern upgrades...Just the interior is left, But it is on the Streets and the track again..

And yes, memories are way better than stuff...I have stuff, but the trips and little moments outweigh all the cool toys..My Wife and i are going everywhere.First class....My Midlife could have been 25....Who knew ?

It's actually 1:6 with 30,000 men a year dying from prostate cancer (but ~250,000 diagnosed each year). It's the second leading cause of cancer-related mortality in men. Yet, most men diagnosed with prostate cancer will die from something other than their cancer (typically heart disease). PSA screening is controversial but the best form of detection (along with digital rectal exam) that we currently have. If this guy died in his 50s from prostate cancer, he had particularly aggressive disease. Many urologists actually feel we over-treat prostate cancer in this country. There is a movement towards active surveillance in order to maintain quality of life for as long as possible and evidence thus far supports this is a safe approach in select patient groups. However, every patient is different and a good number prefer early treatment (surgery or radiation) over active surveillance.

Where did it mention he died from prostate cancer? I would have guessed lung or pancreatic if he passed so quickly.

He did not mention he died of prostate but I mention that because that is what I had...I was picked up on a PSA test as it jumped from 2 to 4.5 within one year..then it was confirmed with a biopsy..

I chose surgery when I found out that if you choose radiation and it does not work..well then you cannnot have surgery because of tissue damage..and basically your out of luck except for some kind of suppressant pills,.,.that is what has happened to two guys I know who chose radiation

I just figured..get rid of the damn thing and let that be it..the robotic surgery was nothing..in fact I had more pain from lying on my shoulder during the entire operation..

When they analyzed it they said it was a very aggressive form of cancer and I would have been dead in five years..that was a year and a half ago..

Part of the cancer had reached the outside of the prostate and this caused them concern that maybe it escaped,..i had to go back for more testing and so far nothing has shown up..

Doctors were all great and they saved me from a very unpleasant and premature death.. So now I am spreading the word...

Well education and enlightenment are the keys!!

And also I forgot to mention I did not chose radiation because I would be embarrassed if my urine was glowing...
