Switching Gears !!!
whats up Z lovers !!!
It is almost that time, i should be reaching 1200 by the end of this week. I have been switching gears every 3000rpm and i already can hear the engine scream loud as hell. after these 1200miles how can i switch those gears? Yes it is my first manual transmission car and I'm not so sure. Can i switch them at 6-7000RPMs (including 1st gear?) or no? How should i do this? When I'm just relaxing, just cruising i will be switching gears as i am, but if i wanna pull that B$%#@ hair and spank that ***... or even smoke someone stupid on the highway just because... How should i switch them ? Thank you all Ooh !!! by the way... is there a way to upload pictures from your iPhone/iPad in here? Last edited by theboydiddy; 04-11-2012 at 11:08 PM. |

When I be out cruising getting my money from da hoes I don't switch dem gears until it bangs off the limiter until the 10th time. Mine an A/T tho so dem paddle shifters can't hold a candle to dat syncrorev. If I had a 6M/T I'd be waiting till 15 maybe 16 bangs off the limter, even in 1st.

You're asking how you should drive your car...
Well even after break-in, I still shift at 3-4k normal driving. Spirited driving.. well... up to 7.5k shifts work too. |

Under normal driving conditions, it's best to shift in the 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. range. You will get the best gas mileage & the least amount of engine wear. R.P.M. means revolutions per minute. During daily driving, only foolish people or people that plan to sell their cars early rev/shift at high RPM. That is why I would not buy a car from a young guy with an awesome sounding exhaust

there is a good thread about break in somewhere. it was said that after 1200 miles to gradually increase shift points (rpms) instead of just dogging it out. this sounds logical to me. as far as how to drive, well, how much do you care about the car?

Thank you all.
I understand all of that. As I mentioned I will continue to switch gears at 2500-3000rpm on daily basis, however if I wanna race someone or just speed for the love of it. Can I rev 1-2-3-4-5-6 gear all the way up to 7500rpm and it's ok ? |

You wont hit 7500 rpm in 5 or 6 and probably not 4th on the street. If you do...

Otherwise yeah, you can go all the way up to 7500 in each gear, just realize by the time you are approaching 7500 rpm in 3rd, I think you will be past 100 mph or right about to hit it

first 2 posts were funny but on a serious note. From the sounds of this thread, OP the type of driving you sound like you want to do should be left on the track.

I almost thought this was a joke thread till I got halfway down the page haha.
Our engines are designed to be revved, so there isn't going to be any harm in holding gears during more spirited driving. For day to day though, there really isn't any point, since the higher revs will wear your engine down quicker than short shifting. |
