Default any TIPS ON REMOVING CHROME OFF RIMS !

i want strip the chrome off the ENTIRE wheel, and then paint it ALL black. im not sure as to how to strip off the chrome, and i dont know what the wheel is made of, its the stern st2. im going to take a magnet and see if its steel or metal, because its heavy as hell with the tire on it. so im pretty sure theres different ways going about removing the chrome depending on what material the rims are, steel, alumininum, metal, etc.

i was thinking of buying VHT wheel primer and VHT wheel paint from metrorestyling.com to paint it entirely black. EXCEPT leave the tiny screws that you see around the inner lip either chrome or paint it red.

i want the whole thing black, these pics shows the chrome that i have, not my pics btw, mine are chipping and are old n a bit of rust. these are just examples, ant the other pic has black spokes.

so any tips on removing chrome off wheels and painting wheels will be appreciated, thankz

Yes you have to get the chrome off. Paint wont stick to chrome. Best way is too have them chemically etched, stripped or blasted. Also remember that chrome is heavy. Not really worth it IMHO.

I remember seeing something on one of the car shows on spike tv, it was either a light sand or scuff with sand paper or a fine steel wool. Sand blasting is probably the best way to go, but if you're gonna go that route might as well have them powder coated. That should run $400-$600 including sand blasting depending on the shop.

Step 1: Sell Chrome Wheels.

Step 2: Buy Black Wheels.

It's that simple.

there in very bad condition, chrome chipping, rust. no one will buy it, unless its dirt cheap which wouldnt be worth it for me. i got quoted $1000 to strip the chrome and paint. i can sell it for a few hundred, save the 1K, add a lil more and buy new ones.. but the one i want cost over 6K. so i think ill try to chip off the chrome some how. like i said in my other thread, i rather buy real horses for 6K

Just get them powder coated, it more durable than paint at a fraction of that cost.
