So I went out and beat on my car for a couple hours. It was a mixture of stop and go traffic with multiple red line runs mixed in from lights. I even cruised around in 4th at about 60 mph for a while. Beat on the car some more....couple more red line runs followed by traffic...and I could not get the temp to rise above ~250 degrees (give or take 5 degrees - could have reached 260) no matter how hard I tried. Limp mode was NOT happening.

So what this means to me, is there is no way in hell I will ever have the car go into limp mode unless I absolutely HAMMER (borderline destructive) on the car on a very very hot day. If tracking the car means I have to beat on the car more than I did today, I will never see the track. Moral of the story, IF you like to drive extremely hard on the street, you probably wont be hitting limp mode any time soon.

This post has the feel of "this car will go into limp mode unless you drive it like a grandma"...which couldn't be farther from the truth. The car performs as it should under street conditions in my opinion.

Anyways, just my two cents, take it for what its worth.

Edit: It could also be that my "driving hard" is not nearly as hard as someone elses hard ...but i doubt it.
You are definitely not driving near as hard as many members on here. The reason the oil temps rise is from engine braking... you know using the engine to decelerate instead of the brakes... I had my car go into limp mode on a 60 degree rainy day after about 20 min of hard driving... then again I push the car to the limits

I'm pretty sure that engine braking doesn't generate much heat, typically the fuel is cut in full lift off which means no combustion.

You mean like the 5 people that post over and over who track their car? I would tend to agree with you on that one. I don't know how I could have beat on it any harder on the street and not end up in jail or dead

hahahaha yeah it was a fun wet track day lol!!! lets just say 60 degree windy weather I was hitting limp mode... LoL I was doing decent that day not my best but still good. I think my first session out on lil tally I ran in the mid teens and later in the day I was running low teens... the track was really wet and caused me to spin once I was running with no traction control sooo it was an interesting day trying to find traction while under power hehe Every straight away the car would step out when power was applied we had a 135i there too with 400+hp and he had a hard time finding traction as well...

All in All it was a fun event!!! Ill give you a ride at the next one

Mike
