I think the warranty should be an option from the start. Maybe a bracketed system where you choose how much of a warranty you want. This would drop the sticker price for those who intend to mod their cars from the get go and would void the warranty anyways and make Nissan happy in getting more sales and fewer warranty disputes. In any case, if Nissan has their name stamped on the part, it should be covered. I've hit limp-mode once driving in heavy stop & go traffic on a hot day. Felt like the car was sick. Scared the crap out of me, especially since I didn't know this issue existed until doing some research afterwards. I had an RX-8 before this so I had to change my shifting habits bit. I was use to living in the high rpm range on the RX-8. No problems since.

"For now I will reframe from going any further with this. I will be driving up to Lockport, New York with my new 370Z, which is a 5 hour, 600 mile drive from my home. I previously made this ride with an Infiniti G350 xS, sedan without any heating issues. I will not exceed the posted speed limits nor push the car hard! I am hoping I have no issues since I truly feel Nissan does offers a great product at a good value. I would be greatly disappointed if the car doesn't perform to its expectations. That being said, thanks for reading my rant. It is only out of concern since I do enjoy driving my 370Z car! If I should have any issues on my trip , I will post exactly what happens and take appropriate actions to get the matter resolved!" This is my second Z car (08, 350Z Touring ) if it does display a heating issue it I'll be my last! Thanks, Alex

If the car's under warranty, screw it. Whenever I get a new laptop, the first thing I do is let it run at 100% CPU usage for about 10 minutes. If it overheats and dies, then that is a manufacturing defect and the computer will be replaced under warranty. Not trying to insight a riot or convince anyone to tear their car up, but if you think that you can kill the engine due to high oil temps, try. Enjoy the car and stop being so worried about it.

^^^ I don't think its a coolant temp issue if I'm not mistaken. It's the engine oil temp that get pretty hot. Normal driving temp is around 220 for oil, anything beyond 260 will kick it into limp mode. You won't be able to shift past 3500 rpm.

well. Just as a reference. my car was at 250 while driving on I-85 (in atlanta). The highest ive seen it when just driving, even compared to in city driving. And this was a month ago when it wasnt as hot as it is now. Even when the guys in Atlanta went up to the mountains for a lil bit more spirited driving, I think the max I saw was 250. So something was up with that highway driving.

I really don't understand how people are even getting over 230. Its about 100 degrees here in KC, I've had my car for a year. Not once have I ever gone over 230, it is normally 225 max, and generally about 210. If you are that concerned about it, simply watch your temps. If the temp has gotten to a range that you are not comfortable with, back off the rpm's. I'd think this would be common sense, but maybe not... If you have not checked your coolant level lately, go do it right now. I lost quite a bit with no leaks present over the first few months. Less coolant, especially a significant amount, will result in your oil running hotter in this car. Turn on your A/C if you want lower temps. I know it has been mentioned in other threads, and I've personally watched the difference between on/off. My oil is typically 5-10 degrees cooler with the A/C on the lowest setting. And finally, if you still don't like any of these options, or it is causing you too much stress...sell the car. Pretty sure most other cars don't even have oil temp gauges. Ignorance is bliss. |

I was simply stating the fact that yes, on the highways temps can go high. There is no stress in my post. If it gets too high, car breaks, nissan will get me a new one. simple. Thanks for the tip on 6th gear, i guess i shouldnt drive on the highway at 80mph in first gear! A/C is always on on. Its Atlanta. Humidity is a bitch. Coolant levels are perfect. I check every week. Im glad you never had a problem. but some have. Im just adding information to that. P.S backing off the revs driving at highway speeds means i would have to go 55mph in Atlanta. Which means people are gonna shoot me when they get stuck behind me. But your welcome to come try it. And lastly. Just because you don't understand it, doesn't mean its not possible or that it doesn't happen. |

Has anyone found it highly amusing that nissan included a oil temp gage on the 370. think they knew something already. i'm no racer don't claim to be. I'd
rather have a oil pressure gage no way to tell what the pressure is which i thought was very important to know. |
