Right from the start its down, almost 70hp on a stock 370Z and it has 4 doors, there is really no getting over that.

As you stated you still have drop $2k into it just to get it approaching a 370Z's stock numbers.

If anything you should have went for something that more HP than the 370Z, unless your getting to old to handle a more powerfull car.

I learned a long time ago that once you are spoiled by a more powerfull vehicle, going backwards never really satisfies you.

The only reason I could really see to down size in HP would be to get greater gas mileage, lets say 45-50 mpg.

Face it you went from Catrinel Menghia, to a life with Snooki.
You really don't have much of a clue do you? Gear head for X number of years and still have no idea about the specific car which you are knocking.

Before I had my Z I had a 2007 WRX TR. For what it was, it was a great car. Even stock it was pretty quick. Basic stage 2 bolt ons (exhaust and tune) and the car was running low 13's and put 240whp down on a MUSTANG dyno. Once I got bored with it at that point I ordered a VF39 and friend gave me an STI intercooler. Installed them all on a weekend, had a friend email me a tune (a tune that costs me $75 for the cable, since everything for those cars are open source). And in a few hours improved my cars performance a crap ton.

On that configuration my car went 12.7 with a garbage 1.8 60ft (I really needed to raise the 2 step up to 5500rpm). After that, I got a MBC and used that to control and hold boost MUCH better, but never took it back to the track and decided to get a Z.

You can talk all you want about the wrx, but in my mind sometimes I wish I still had it. All the mods I had into the car was less money than pretty much test pipes and an intake for the Z.

I noticed the whole wrx with bolt ons vs 370z with bolt ons whos faster argument. Let me clear this up for everyone. In the 1/4 mile, the wrx hands down.

A friend of mine has a pro tuned stage 2 2009 wrx making 300 awhp and 330 awtq. I have catback exhaust and k & n filters at the moment.

From a dig, i have no chance really.

From a roll on, about 70 mph, a near stock 370z IS faster, and we have done many runs, on closed tracks and airport runways of course. from 70 mph to 140 mph my near stock 370z pulls a good 2-3 cars on a protuned 300 awhp 2009 wrx.

From a 45 mph roll on, the wrx gets the jump, i catch it by 110 mph.

Anyways, i've driven both, and owned an evo x, the wrx is an awesome car, and definetly better suited for the northern climate than a 370z, a better buy for this area if you dont want to own 2 cars. Nice buy OP, have fun drifting around in the snow!

You really should stop talking down to people and instigating arguments when there are none to be had. Its obvious you love the WRX, but you are on a 370Z forum. Calling the Z a not very fast car is going to net these responses, this thread is about your opinion and people have respected that so why don't you respect theirs.

ok, so with all of this 35 years of experience, this is the best you can come up with? 3 pages of Cobb AP OTS maps? ONE of them shows a cobb map vs. a protuned map which for a STAGE 1 was over 321 wtq.

I will say again... get a clue and come back after you have done some real research and know anything about the car.

I'm not talking down to anyone. I even said that I loved my Z, but that I needed something different for my lifestyle. I won't however have someone who claims to have all of these years of experience tell me about the car when he had gotten his numbers from wikapedia... he has ZERO knowledge about the Subaru and likely zero about the Z either... aside from looking it up on wikipedia.

Here is a dyno database chart list... people can browse the owners and what mods they have and how much power they are putting down. People can select the 09 Z as well.

Dyno Database Online

now there are plenty of Z's on here with 310-320 whp and 250-260 wtq, there are none that high there... so with better exhausts and such the number have come up... or it could be the dynos used.

This is why I didn't want this to turn into a this car vs. that car... i'm happy with my choice... I was happy with my choice with the Z... and had we not gotten a house and needed a lower payment... I would have kept it and be perfectly happy. With having only 1 car and living in an area where we see snow sometimes, rain a lot, have 3 pit bulls, 1 Presa Canario that need to go to the vet sometimes... obviously a Z isn't going to cut it.

Funny thing I went to Loews around 8pm and took our old 2005 Nissan Sentra SE beater, ended up parking next to a late model WRX STI with the warrior wing on it .

On the way out, I had to laugh at how much the sentra and the wrx looked like the same type of car.

Seeing how you have a history of 4 door turbo compacts, the 370z was probably the wrong car for you. The wrx is probably a better move for you.

As you get older you probably move on to a European touring car like the Transporter.

As much as I like the 4 door touring cars made for their styling and convenience, the only way I could see myself , owning one is if they came with a hot asian porn star in the trunk, with every new car you bought.

Sports cars like the 370Z are really for a select crowd, and you either love them or hate them, I come from a flat track and sport bike racing background, so a sports car like the Z is perfect for me.

Back about 25 yrs. ago a motorcycle magazine did a test of what would be the perfect practical vehicles a guys garage, and they were a Toyota MR2, Honda Interceptor, 4x4 truck and some type of rear engine home build plane.

I would say its time you move on to the WRX forum, your really getting to the point of bashing members here.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, if your intent with the post is to get endorsement for your purchase, your barking up the wrong tree.

From my experience over the years I have found that its best to buy the highest hp. normally aspirated car in your budget. Extensively modifying or playing with the turbos can result in premature engine or tranny failures. Buying a $30-$40k car and then risking engine failures that may not be covered under the manufactures waranty is not my cup of tea.

As for my experience don't worry, when I need a help with my Hoover Vac or bird crap, dirty mags, then Wally World will have everything I need.
