30 mph speed limits and db drivers for 10-15 minutes any direction I can go to get to a highway. I'm plenty warm by then, and the car is around 180 too.

Warm-up Poll question
I think maybe the poll question might need a little tweak.
What I think everyone would like to know is what oil temp does most feel is ok to start going WOT, or at least pushing 5-6K. To me I like to see 160 to 180 before I get heavy with the right foot. Otherwise, its 3 to 4K til then. |

Well I bought the car in the cold months sub 40-30 degree weather so it always used to take a little for the car to warm up but now it has recently gotten warmer in NY like 60-70 it only needs like a minute or two then I drive. I'm still learning lol, I didn't own the car in summer or even hot weather and I've seen temps of 220-230 for the first time in 70 degree weather . Im scared to see what temps I'll see in 90-100+ weather in NY.

I go by oil pressure now that I have the gauge as well, wait until it is below 45 psi to go. Usually the water temp is all the way up by then. I don't really get on the throttle though until the oil temp is above 90.

I start her up for a few seconds and go slow. Pretty much the speed limit and no pushing the car getting up to speed. In the mornings, I am usually 10+ miles down the highway before it even reaches 180 degrees.

Turn on car, hold revs to 7,500 for 1 min straight then drive. Engine runs great.

This plus you need to drive a few miles to warm up the trans/diff fluids etc. Oil temp just means the motor is getting there. The trans etc all need to be properly warmed used at normal speeds as well. There is more to speed than just the motor
A Ferrari mechanic friend of mine lectured me on this a few years ago. |

I usually start her up, wait for the initial sweep on the gauges to complete and the revs to drop to normal before I start moving (only to give the oil a little time to circulate all over). Ambient Temps in my part of the Country runs from lower 60's to 90+ about 8 months out of the year. The other months the Z is almost dormant but is taken out on nice warmer days on weekends. I don't push the car until I see about a 160 oil temp at least. I've used a similar philosophy on all my past vehicles, and have had some over 250K miles without any engine issues whatsoever - yeah ok, preventative maintenance is strictly adhered to... oops, matter of fact, that reminds me, I have two oil changes to do this morning... ps: forgot about the revs... LOL!

Hm. To all those who don't warm up the car, does it actually respond if you get on the throttle when the engine is cold? If I don't warm the car up, my throttle response is crap. During the cooler months, I have to drive maybe 15 to 20 miles (under 4k RPM) to fully wake the Z. And that's after idling for 2 to 3 min after start up. I usually don't go until the needle drops to 1k.
