So You Need a VIN To Order An SRM Switch
Okay guys, this may seem a little crazy. I do not have the Sport Package but I want to purchase an SRM switch to use for a project. I contacted some dealerships, including Courtesy, and they stated that I need a good VIN from a Sport Package vehicle to order the switch. I've heard similar things before because they don't want people just buying up parts when they're trying to ramp up production for new car sales and orders. So, if someone wouldn't mind helping me out here I really would appreciate it and give up some rep points.
If everyone is scared to give out their VIN I would be willing to buy the switch from someone after they ordered it and pay all costs including shipping and some extra. You guys can check out my post history and know that I'm not some scammer or something like that. I've been on here for a few months now and contributed a good bit of posts if it puts your mind at ease. Sorry for the long post, shoot me a PM if you can help. Thanks. |

Wouldn't it be funny if the SRM was completely functional in the non-Sport cars and the only thing missing was the switch? I'm assuming that's not the case but they often do stupid things like that.

Well the ECU programming is likely there, or easy to flash in once someone figures it out. Other than that, it's really just a matter of the switch and the gear position sensors. I kinda wouldn't be surprised if the gear sensors were already there too, as the car would find them useful for other things...

Ok, so 3 parts to order, and maybe some clandestine ECU work I'm just saying, a lot of people are only getting the Sport pkg for the SRM feature if they're using aftermarket replacements for everything else anyways. Something tells me the sensor, magnet, and button don't add up to the sports package price by far (even minus the spoilers), and that's the main reason they're asking for VINs.

Thanks for the help AARC. Rep points sent. I notice the difference with SRM is #20 Gear Lever Position Sensor and #21 Gear Level Position Sensor Magnet. Of course these are internal and could be a pain to attempt to place.
In any case I'm not trying to add SRM but I can now order the switch thanks to AARC51. |
